With all of us finishing our junior year and the four of us getting engaged, except Lex. I swear by the time he got engaged, he would be a geezer. Yeah, our brother was a twit and took forever to make a move.
It took him forever to admit he was in love with Piper even though he's been in love with her forever.
"What's the big deal?" Lex asked as he boxed up items.
"The big deal is, you need to get your shit together," Larkin told him.
"Look, not everyone has to run off getting engaged. Plus, didn't it ever dawn on you that we still have a senior year to finish before Dad even lets you run down the aisle," he said to us.
"Yeah, so?" Luna asked him.
"So, when the time is right, I will ask her. The time isn't right," Lex told us.
"Only because you're a snail," I retorted as he rolled his eyes at me.
"A little help here, Lyric," Lex said to her.
"Lex, you take forever on things. Let's see the last to be born - the last to come down for graduation. The last to propose, if that ever happens," she smirked.
He looked at her unimpressed.
"Lex will be Grammy's age before he gets his head out of his ass," Larkin said.
"Isn't Grammy like one hundred and fifty?" Luna asked.
"She's turning ninety-five," Lyric corrected her.
"Close enough," I said as they looked at me. Well, it was true. That woman will never die. She'll stick around to give us hell.
It was mute. Lex would never get his shit together and propose to Piper. It did me talking about it.
Lex
After my sisters finally left, I could finish packing. I don't know why they felt the need to berate me because I hadn't proposed to Piper yet. Did I plan on it? Yes, but I wanted to do it at the right moment.
Piper was everything to me. I have loved her since we were toddlers. She deserves proposed especially.
We loaded up our cars with the help of our dads, who came to bring us home. I loaded the last box, and Dad looked at me. "What's wrong?"
"The devil girls won't leave me alone but proposing to Piper," I sighed.
"I think it's because they love Piper," he said.
"I love her, too, but I want to propose to her properly. She deserves it. Plus, we already talked, and Piper is not in a rush," I told him.
"Neither was your mom," Dad said.
I looked at him.
"I proposed, and she ran off," he shrugged as I laughed. He rolled his eyes. "Thanks."
"No problem, Dad," I chuckled. My parents have always had some weird relationship. Dad spent most of the time is a tool to her while she battled health problems.
According to the family and Ma, he finally got his shit together once they got married, and we came along. I look at this way, at least they did, and things worked out for them. Like they will work out for Piper and me.
Once we loaded everything, Nixon yelled, "Yo, devil children, and frick and frack, let's go!"
Everyone came out, and Lyric locked the door as she walked over and handed Dad the keys. We all loaded up into the cars then Dad had to drop off the keys to the owner.
I had a feeling next year, our living arrangements would change drastically.
Once we were all set, we drove home. I couldn't wait to get home. Not that school was wrong, but I couldn't wait to work in the bakery since that's where I would work when we graduated. Piper would join us since we were both becoming pastry chefs.
The minute we pulled up into the driveway, the door opened to the house. Ma stepped out, and we got out of the cars, making our way to her. The five of us threw our arms around her.
"My babies," she said as she hugged us all.
"We're home, Ma," Lyric said.
"I know, and I'm glad," she said as she hugged us. Even with Luna having moved out with Major, they decided she should stay at home this summer since after we graduate, we married them. All of them were. We wanted one last time home together until we all had our own families.
We went inside and got settled then ate before Dad brought out dessert. Larkin got warned about violence. Yeah, she and food was a big thing. While Lyric needed to eat, both had the same metabolic disorder but with opposite effects.
"Lyric, you look thin," Dad said to her.
"I have to see the doctor. I think the medication isn't working," Lyric said as we all looked at her.
"I'll make an appointment for you for Monday," Ma told her.
She nodded as she ate but then pushed her food away. We knew why and didn't make a big deal about it.
"Okay, so, Grammy is having a birthday party," Dad started to say as we let out a collective groan. He gave us a look as Ma giggled.
"Listen, you devil children, the woman is turning ninety-five. Show her a little respect," Dad ordered us.
"Oh, we respect her; she just bat shit crazy," Larkin exclaimed.
"Lark," Dad cautioned her.
"Well, she is," she shrugged.
"Well, that bat shit crazy woman along with the rest of us were paying for all your weddings except Lex," Dad told her as I looked at him. My sisters snickered. Nice dad, a way to be supportive.
"Well, if Lex would get off his duff and propose, then we can all go about our lives," Lakin added.
"Maybe he's just scared." Luna shrugged.
"Or maybe I need not beat into submission by you, twits," I said to them as their head all snapped to my direction. I looked at them as they looked at me.
"Ah, hell, here we go," Dad said, rubbing his forehead.
The next thing I knew, the five of us were wrestling around in the living room as my parents stood there watching us.
"I'm thrilled we got rid of the breakables," Ma said to Dad.
"So am I," Dad said as we all went at it. That was nothing new for us. Contrary to popular belief, my sisters could give and right as they can get. It was our thing.
