There was a festival going on for Halloween to help raise money. We all attended. They had hayrides, games, rides, and haunted houses. There's something for everyone.

All of us had split up and done our own thing. Major and I checked out the haunted house, walking through it with people jumping out at us left and right. We both screamed but laughed.

As soon as we made it out, we hit some rides. That was the thing we both loved trips at carnivals and amusement parks.

We took a break, grabbing a bite to eat. We found Maverick and Larkin sitting at a table, dining, and joining them.

"Did you guys just get done with the rides," Maverick asked us.

"Yeah, but we hit the haunted house first," Major told him as we ate.

"Good choice," Larkin said as we finished eating.

Lakin walked up with Mia, taking a seat with us.

"How much did you spend on the games," Larkin asked Lakin.

"Less than they wanted," she smirked as Mia held onto a giant stuff teddy bear.

We laughed.

"What's so funny?" Major asked us.

"Carnivals and amusement parks hate when Lakin shows up, considering everyone knows they rig the games. She knows all the tricks and always wins quickly," I explained.

"It's a gift," she shrugged.

They looked at her as Mia hugged her teddy bear.

"Hey! Let's head to the hayride!" Michael yelled at us. We all shrugged and got up, walking to the hayride.

Once we got to the trailer, we all climbed in and took a seat. The ten of us were in one container while the others went on a different hayride.

As we rode, we all talked, then Maverick reached into his pocket. "You know, I've been thinking about something," he said to Larkin, who was looking around the area.

She turned to face him, "Oh yeah? What's that?" Then she saw him holding a ring in his hand.

The four of us looked at each other and smiled as she looked at Maverick.

"Remember last Christmas when I gave you a promise ring and promised one day I wanted to replace it?" Maverick asked. She looked at him thoughtfully. "I thought it was time. Larkin, will you marry me?"

We all sat there as she looked at him speechless. That was a first. Larkin always has something to say.

"I will go with the fact you are silent because it loses you for words?"

She looked at the ring then back at him, "You want to marry me?"

"I wouldn't be asking if I didn't want to marry you. Larkin Gray, I love you. Marry me," he said as he looked into her eyes.

That was a lot for Larkin. She had it the roughest out of all of us. After what Roger did to her, it took a lot for her to let anyone get close. Maverick could break through to her and show her that they could love her even when she refused it.

She looked at the four us as we all nodded and smiled. She turned back to Maverick, "Yes," she whispered as he placed his hands on her face and kissed her. He pulled back and pulled off the promise ring, replacing it with the engagement ring.

We all cheered and clapped as they hugged.

"Hey, will you tools settled down? You're ruining our nice romantic hayride!" Kaiden yelled to us.

"Well, Larkin got engaged, you twit," Lakin yelled back.

"No, shit! Good for her!" Kain yelled.

"Hang on! Someone has something to say to her," Kaiden yelled as he held up the phone.

On the screen were Dad and Uncle Nixon.

"Lark! Did you get engaged?" Nixon exclaimed.

She laughed. "Yeah, and sorry, Dad," she cringed.

Dad chuckled. "Good thing I was hanging out with Nix, but the next one that gets engaged better call me than this tool," he said, thumbing at Nixon. We all laughed.

"We blame those twits," Lex added as frick and frack rolled their eyes.

"So, you're not mad," Larkin asked.

"Baby girl, we just want you to be happy," Dad said.

"Lark, you've been through hell, it's time you get to be happy," Nix added.

She looked at them and started crying. Maverick wrapped his arms around her.

"Maverick take care of her," Dad said to him.

"Always," he said as they said bye and disconnected.

As soon as the hayride stopped, we all got off, and the four of us tackled Larkin. It's a Gray and quint thing. Everyone watched as the five of us hugged each other.

We had a bond like no other. Whatever happened to one happened to the others. We felt each other's pain and happiness. We were there for each other, even when we didn't think we had anyone.

Lyric and Larkin were now engaged, Lakin and Lex gave promise rings to Mia and Piper, and I had two fake marriages. I'm good at those and never have to worry about divorce.

As everyone talked, I stood there, thinking.

"You okay?" Lex asked me.

"Yeah, I just realized that all you will get married while I will probably end up in another fake marriage. It's pretty pathetic that I can't even make a fake marriage work," I sighed.

"Luna, I think when you do get married, it won't be fake. You just got to have faith," he assured me.

"Lex, I gave up hope a long time ago," I said as he looked at me. With getting married and since the last two times turned into a disaster, I doubt it will ever happen. That was fine. If I never got married again, maybe it was for the best.

After the hayride, Major took me home, and we hung out.

"You've been quiet on the car ride home. Does this have to do with Larkin getting engaged?" He asked me.

"I'm happy for Lark. I am, but Major, our family, made it seem like we got married one time then when we thought we got married the second time, you called it quits. I'm pretty sure, marriage is the last thing that will ever happen to me," I said as I went to change.

I walked back into the room and took a seat on the bed next to him.

He looked at me. "Maybe it wasn't the right time for us."

I looked at him.

"It doesn't mean one day. I won't propose and make you my wife properly," he told me.

Something told me, if Major and I do take that step, he will do it properly. That this time, it would be different. I was okay with how things were. It was enough.

He kissed me then pulled me to him. Things were so different from before because we were different. For us, that was a good thing.
