Luna
I stood there and waited. They were quiet, which was unnerving.
"Lu, we loved it," Dad said, as the rest of them agreed. That shocked me.
"You're not mad," I asked them.
"How can we be mad? It was honest," Nixon said.
"Real," Nathan said.
"Funny," Noah said.
"And captured us for who we are," Nolan said.
That made me happy. I was so afraid my dad and uncles would hate it.
"Baby girl, you have a real talent for writing. Your mom and I are proud of you," Dad told me as the others agreed.
"I'm glad because honestly, I thought it would disappoint you," I said to him.
"I know we seem to like it would disappoint us, but we aren't. Your mother and I are proud of all of you. No matter what happens, we love you five more than life itself," he told me, which made me thrilled.
"How did you all get a copy of the book?" I asked them.
"Not a clue, it just arrived one day," Nixon said.
Then I thought about it. That's when I realized who sent it.
"I got to go. Love you!" I yelled as I left them there.
"Good ole, Lu. Flightier, then ever," Nolan chuckled.
"I'll give you flighty, little brother," Dad told him.
"Got to go," he said as he ended the call.
Dad logged off next.
"Some things never change," Nathan said, logging off.
"Nope," Noah agreed, logging off.
"That's fantastic, it seems like old times," Nixon said, logging off last.
Major
I heard a knock at the door. I answered only to have Luna fling her arms around my neck and crash her lips onto mine. I kissed her back then broke from our kiss.
"Not that I don't enjoy random kissing from my girl, but why the random kissing?" I asked her a little confused.
"You sent them a copy of the book," she smiled.
I looked at her and winced. "Sorry, I didn't tell you, but I knew how disappointed you sounded when you talked to your siblings. I figure, why not get an answer from the horse's mouth?"
She looked at me as she released her hold around my neck. "Well, you need not worry."
"Why?" I asked.
"Because they loved it!" She grinned.
"Oh, thank god," I said, letting out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"The only question is, why did you send them a copy," she inquired.
"Because it's what you do when you love and care about someone. Luna, I knew you wrote. I didn't realize you went further with it. I wanted to support you," I explained to her.
"You don't know how much this means to me," she said, smiling.
"I think I have some idea," I told her as I pulled her into a kiss.
Lakin
I was on my way to see Mia when I noticed something sticking out of Luna's trash. I walked over and saw the book inside of it. Reaching in, I pulled it out.
Lex saw me and walked inside.
"What's going on?" Lex asked.
"I think we've been pretty harsh with Lu," I said to him.
"You all were. I read it," Lex told me.
I looked at him, "And?"
"It's great and hilarious. I laughed a lot, and so did Piper," he told me.
"You know, I think I will read this to Mia since she has a hard time reading. They said it would help stimulate the brain, so it heals," I told him.
"It couldn't hurt," he shrugged.
I took the book and went to see Mia. I knocked on the door, and Major answered it. I promptly hid the book behind my back when I saw Luna. I hurried past them as they looked at each other, confused before shrugging.
I found Mia in her room, reading.
I took a seat on her bed with her. "What are you reading?"
"A book, but it's hard to understand," she said in a frustrated tone.
"Here, I got something better," I said, taking the book from her. I opened the book and started reading. She giggled when I got to funny parts and asked questions about things she didn't understand. I explained everything.
As I read, people gathered at the door to listen.
Mia looked at me. "Your family is crazy, but in a good way."
"That they are," I said with a smile.
"It's nice," Mia said.
"What is?" I looked at her questionably.
"Your mom had no one, but your dad and uncles gave her someone. She lost her parents as we lost ours," Mia said.
"Mia, her parents abandoned her," I said.
"Yeah, but she lost them. Your dad and his family gave her what she always wanted," Mia told me.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Loving parents. Sort of like what your parents did for me," she shrugged.
That's when I realized how amazing this book was. I turned to see Luna standing there with Lyric and Larkin along with the others.
That's when I pulled my phone out and made a call. It rang until someone answered.
"Thank you." It was all I could manage before I started crying. If anyone knows me, they know I never cry.
Lake? It's okay. Why are you crying, baby girl?
"Because I never realized how much you and Ma gave us until now," I sniffled.
Sometimes we have to go through problems and learn before we truly know where our heart lies.
"I read the book to Mia," I said, trying to get my composure.
And? Dad asked.
"You all were crazy," I said as I heard him chuckle.
That we were and still are, but the one thing is with people that we care about, nothing and I mean nothing can outdo us.
"So, you're not mad. Luna wrote it?" I asked.
Surprised? Yes. Mad? Never. We love all of you and are proud of each of you. You're our babies and always will be to us.
It was something we all needed to hear from the one man in our life important to us, Dad. People think he is a tool, and sometimes he is, but he's still our dad, and he's the best dad out there. Who else can deal with our bullshit the way he does? No one except for our uncles.
For Grays, the family is everything. You mess with one, you mess with all, and that's a fact.
