Lex
Piper and I were working in the bakery, applying our skills that we learned at school. That would help when we graduated next year. Plus, working alongside Dad was a dream.
While Ma and Piper baked, we decorated. The bakery had become busier than usual. Uncle's Noah and Nathan took care of the business aspect of it while maintaining the manufacturing plant. Michael, Mia, and Major were also helping at the plant, along with other cousins. Grampa was looking to hand over the business to other family members and retire at some point.
Us, Grays had grown over the years, and every so often, we saw a family member we hadn't seen in a while.
Ding!
I cleaned off my hands and came out to the front to find Jace and Jaime.
"Hey, Lex, is your dad around?" Jace asked me.
"Yeah, he's working on an order," I said as I walked to the kitchen and said, "Dad? Jace and Jaime are here."
Dad set his stuff down and came out front.
"Look at you, Betty Crocker," Jace chuckled, earning a look from Dad.
"Is that why you came here? To bust my balls," he asked him.
"Pft, we're Grays, that's what we do," he chuckled as Jaime laughed.
Then Uncle Nixon came into the bakery, "You two lost?"
They turned and rolled their eyes.
"It's an honest question. I can't help it if you got married and leave, never hearing from you," Nixon retorted.
"We were busy," Jace said.
"Dude, we haven't heard from you since Nolan's wedding," Nixon snapped.
"Has it been that long?" Jaime asked Jace.
"Yep," Jace said.
"Well, if it makes you feel better, guess who's also coming," Jace said to them.
"Oh god, you don't tell me," Nixon groaned.
Ding!
We all turned to see three guys walked into the bakery.
"Ah hell, here we go," Nixon said.
"Did you miss us?" Carson asked.
"With every bullet," Nixon countered.
"Where's Noah? Did he find his ark?" Cody asked them.
"Probably not, and Nathaniel Mark Jr., probably helping him find it," Caleb snickered.
"How about we just beat your ass and get it over with?" Nathan said, standing behind them with Noah.
They turned and grinned.
"Damn, you three got old," Nolan said, walking up.
"Hey, we're like fine wine," Carson said.
"Do you mean nasty and rancid? Sure, let go with that," Noah told them as we laughed.
"Nash? How many people will be there?" Ma asked, coming from the back.
"Hey look, it's a magazine," Caleb said as Ma looked up from her list.
"Didn't you learn from the last time Maggie punched you?" Nathan said to him.
"Nope, he didn't," Noah said as Ma glared at them.
"It's just a joke," Caleb sighed.
"You better not let the sisters hear you say that," Nolan told him.
"What are little girls going to do? So what? We all know magazines over there turned constantly. Everyone takes a turn, turning her pages," Caleb retorted.
We stood there as we watched someone taps him on the shoulder. Caleb turned and met with a fist. We watched him drop to the ground.
"What the hell, Nathan?" Caleb said, holding his nose.
"Nope, not me," Nathan said, pointing to Lakin. We all looked to see my sisters standing there.
"The next time you say something asinine about Ma, make sure we aren't around, you twit," Larkin said.
"Smooth move, ex-lax," Lyric said to him.
"Tool," Luna added as she stepped over him.
I watched as my sisters walked over to Ma and hugged her. As much of a hassle, we give her; we ever allowed no one to make comments about her. We always took exception to it. Hell, my sisters still threaten to beat my ass for almost causing us to lose her when she gave birth to us.
I leaned on the counter as they helped Caleb up off the floor. Uncle Jonas and Cayson's kids were something else.
After they talked to everyone for a while, they all left to see their parents. Ma and Dad, along with our uncles, had to meet with Grampa and nana. My sisters got unholy with their fiancés. Yeah, I don't even want to know.
I stood there, figuring out how I wanted to do this with what I planned. I looked at the draft of a cake I created, figuring out how I wanted it to be with what I drafted.
"You know if you stare at it long enough, it may just materialize," Kain said as he and Kaiden stood there, smirking.
"Give me a break. I'm trying to figure out how I will do this," I told Kaiden and Kain as I looked at it.
"Relax, Lex. All you have to do is follow your heart. It'll lead you in the right direction," Kaiden advised me.
"God, I hope so because I'm getting one shot with this," I sighed.
"Lex, you need to relax. It will be fine," Kain assured me.
I stood there, looking at the design I created. I hope so. It was something I planned for a while.
The summer had been crazy with the family coming in with their families along with the planning of Grammy's birthday party. We were providing the cake and desserts while nana and our aunts cooked.
According to Grammy, if we even thought about poisoning her, she would come back and haunt us.
All of us worked together to get everything set up for the party. We had it at Grampa's and nana's house. Once we finish, we all went home. Tomorrow would be insane.
