Luna
After our birthday, Major packed the rest of his stuff to move in with me. Maverick watch him at the doorway as he finished boxing up things. Once Major finished, he took the boxes to his car and loaded them. Major hugged everyone before driving over to my place.
"It will be okay, Mav," Michael assured him.
"Michael, he's the only thing I have left from our parents. Since their death, we have always lived in the same place. That may not be a big deal to people, but it is to me," Maverick said as he turned and walked away.
Lyric walked over to Michael. "Is Maverick okay?"
"No," Michael told her as he went to check on Maverick.
I heard a knock at my door and opened it to find Major standing there. I stepped aside as Major walked in with a box. Then I helped him unload the car.
Once we brought the boxes into the rental place, I helped him unpack. It took a few hours, but we finished.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"Mav is taking this hard," he whispered.
I looked at him.
"I get it. After our parents died, I was the closest person he had to them. With me leaving, I'm taking a part of them with me," he explained.
I wrapped my arms around his waist and hugged him. When you're so used to living with someone, and one of them leaves, or you leave, a part of you goes.
The only thing was Maverick didn't take it too well. We would find this out quickly.
Major
Luna and I had been living together for the past couple of weeks, and one evening we were watching a movie when she got a call from Larkin.
"Lark, calm down. What's going on?" Luna asked Larkin.
I sat there as she talked to Larkin, then hung up.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"It's a Maverick. He's spiraling out of control," Luna said as I furrowed my brows.
We arrived at a local bar and found Larkin trying to get Maverick to leave, but he was drunk. They argued. Then he did the one thing I didn't expect him to. He pushed her.
"Major, do something," Luna ordered.
I turned to her and put my hands on her arms. "Call Lyric and get Michael. I'll handle Mav," I assured her.
She nodded as she called Lyric, and I walked over to Maverick.
"Oh, look, it's my big brother who likes to run off! Care to join me, brother," Maverick exclaimed as he slurred his words.
"No, but you've had enough," I told him.
"Pft, I'm just getting started," he laughed as he took a drink.
"Come on, Mav. Don't do this," I said to him.
"And why should I listen to you? Huh? You left," he said drunkenly.
"Give me the drink, Mav," I said, trying to take his drink.
"I said no," Maverick said as he pushed me away. I went for his drink, then he hauled off and hit me. Larkin and Luna stood there, shocked. I straightened myself up and touched the corner of my mouth to find blood.
"Now be a good boy and run back to your woman," Maverick said as he smirked while he patted my cheek. That was it. I grabbed him and yanked him away. I dragged him out of the bar until we got out, shoving him. He stumbled.
"You want to hit me? Go ahead! I'm standing in front of you! Go ahead!" I yelled at Maverick, and he charged me. Then we fought until Michael arrived, separating us along with Lex.
"Enough!" Michael barked.
"Not until I'm done," Maverick said as he tried to go after me again.
"What the hell is your problem?" I yelled at Maverick.
"You! You're my problem!" Maverick yelled.
I looked at him.
"You left me! You walked away! Just like Mom and Dad," Maverick screamed as we all looked at him. "They left! You left! Everyone leaves! You promised me you'd never leave! Why? Why, Major?"
I stood there, watching my brother break in front of my eyes.
"Mav, I didn't leave you. I just moved in with Luna. I would never leave you. You're my brother. We might not live in the same house, but it doesn't mean I will ever leave you," I told him.
"Major, I can't do this. I can't do this alone," Maverick cried.
"You don't have to," we heard someone say.
I watched as Larkin walked over to him, "Mav, you're not alone. Trust me; we felt the same way you did when Luna moved out. But we also know it's something she needed to do."
"It's just we've never been apart. It's just hard," Mav cried.
"But you have people to help you like your family and us," Lex told him.
Maverick wiped his eyes as Michael looked at him, "Mav, no matter what, we'll all be there for you."
Mav stood there, sobbing.
I knew what I needed to do. I walked over and hugged Maverick; then, I whispered something in his ear. "You're never alone as long as you have a family. No matter where we are, we'll always be together."
That's all it took as he hugged me back. It was something Dad used to tell us, to remind us that family was important. I said no one, but at night, Maverick would cry for our parents. It was the only time he would show how much he missed them. I would sit with him and tell him the same thing, night after night. It helped.
Once he calmed down, he let go of me.
"Sorry for hitting you," Maverick sniffled.
I pointed to my mouth. "This is just a scratch."
He chuckled as I laughed.
"Drinking is not the answer, Mav. It's never the answer," I told him.
"I know, but I just wanted to numb the ache. Just for a bit," he said.
"We need that ache to remind us how much we love someone. You're my brother. Remember that," I told him as he nodded.
Larkin walked over to him as he looked at her. "I'm so sorry," he apologized.
"I know, but you need to make a choice. It's the booze or me. You can't have both," Larkin said to Maverick.
He nodded as she hugged him. Then he ran over to a garbage can and puke. That'll teach him. Alcohol solves nothing, and it has nasty repercussions, ew.
After he got done tossing his cookies, we took him home. We got him to bed, and Larkin stayed with him. I got to hand it to her, most girls wouldn't put up with his shit, but she did. That speaks volumes.
All I wanted to do was go home with Luna. She was my home now, and one day I would make her my wife for real, and I knew how I would do it.
