Amy's Pov
"Amy, we need to get out of here," Mark said grabbing the last bag.
"I got some more water." I picked up two 2 gallons of water from the floor and followed him to the basement.
He opened the hatch and threw the bags down, then helped me down. I put the water on the little table.
"Okay, we need to stay down here till this war is over." He closed the hatch and locked it.
"How long do you think that is?"
"No clue, but I was able to get a plug down here, so we can have some connection to the outside world." He was going through the bags.
"Mark."
"I'm here."
"They are going to come to look for you, aren't they?" I was fighting back the tears.
"I am not fighting in a war when our house is in the middle of the war field. I told them that. They would not let me move you to keep you safe. They told me that if you move then everyone will know something "
"They will come here looking for you."
"I have enough weapons to keep us safe, I know most of the plan. They don't go inside houses, so we should be good." He wrapped his arms around me holding me tight.
"Why is the war going on?"
"Some stupid reason, I promise you are safe."
"What happens if they find us?"
"They will either force me to fight or kill me, but they will need to find me to force me to do any of that. There is a hide-a-hole in the wall that fits up to five people."
"How long did you know this war was going to happen?"
"Too long, there is even a bathroom area that empties outside in the woods."
"That's why you have been in the woods for the past month."
"I needed to make sure you are taken care of."
He picked me up and sat me on the couch.
"So, this is where our old couch went," I said.
"Yeah, a lot of our old stuff came down here, I didn't know how long we would need to be down here. I did bring your favorite blanket down here." He wrapped the blanket around me.
"I am so scared."
"I know honey and I am so sorry. You are safe, no one is going to hurt you. Not on my watch."
After a while, Mark made dinner, cold beans, and leftover rice. Mark has been cooking like crazy this week and packing it away down here.
"For breakfast, I have cereal and milk or muffins." He said cleaning up the dishes.
I got us another bottle of water to share, then sat on the couch. He came over and wrapped the blanket around me. I pulled on his shirt having him lay with me.
"How are you feeling?" He played with my hair.
"Scared that I am going to lose you."
"Nope, you are not losing me."
Three days later
"Mark!" I whispered yelled, I heard gunshots.
"Get in the wall." He said opening the hidden door, I grabbed his arm as I passed him forcing him in with me. He locked the door then wrapped his arms around me.
