Amy's Pov

"Mommy, when is daddy coming home?" My daughter asked me as I tucked her into bed.

"Soon, honey. He is busy working overseas. He can't wait to see you and your brother, all he wants is to hold you guys." I kissed her goodnight then walked out of the room.  I went into my room and looked out of the window.

He didn't want to go, but they drafted him, He tried everything he could to stay with us but he is in perfect health. I never tell the kids that he gets to call once a month, they will fight over the phone and he only gets a few minutes to talk.  Tonight is his night. I sat on the lonely bed waiting for my cell phone to ring. Once it did  I answered,

"Hello."

"I miss hearing your voice." He said.

"I miss you."

"I miss you too, how is everything?"

"We are okay, the kids keep asking about you."

"I can't wait to hold you guys."

"How bad is it this week?"

"Bad, I might not get to call next month."

"Why?"

"Where I will be going, phones don't work. But I promise as soon as I get to a working phone I will call."

"Okay."

"Amy?"

"Mark?"

"I love you."

"I love you too."

We ended the call, I laid in bed crying. first, they take him away from me and now they take our phone calls away. How much more can I do this?

"Momma?" It was our daughter, I wiped my tears as she climbed into bed.

"Bad dream?" I asked playing with her hair.

"Yeah, can I sleep with you?"

"Of course, I pulled the blanket up and held her as she fell asleep.

Two months later.

Mark wasn't able to call me last month but I hope he can call this month. Tonight is our night, I got the kids ready for bed then sat on the bed waiting for his call. But he never did. I locked the bedroom door and cried to sleep. I need him.

"Mom, why are we going to this party?" Our son asked.

"Uncle Tyler invited us so we are going, there are going to be tons of kids there you guys can play with," I said tying his shoes.

"I don't want to go."

"Neither do I but we are going. Get your jacket on." I said walking away.

I feel and look like shit. Not getting that phone call is hurting me

"Mom, can I take toys?"

"No, Get your jacket on and meet your brother at the door." I walked into the bathroom and threw some make-up on. There now I don't look dead.

"Let's go," I said walking to the door, we got into the car and headed to this party. When we got there Tyler met me outside and helped us in.

"Go play," I said to the kids, they took off finding the game room.

"How are you?" Tyler asked

"He didn't call last night."

"So another night you cried yourself to sleep."

"Why did they have to pick him? There are so many people who want to fight in the war, why didn't they pick them?"

"I don't know, but once can he will talk to you."

"I know and the kids miss him so much as well,  I feel like a bad mother for not letting them talk to their dad but they will fight over the phone and he will be so stressed with who he gets to talk to."

"Amy, you both decided to keep the phone calls from them, he agrees on the mess it will be. Why don't we go and get something to eat."

We walked into the kitchen and made plates for ourselves,  I knew a few people here. After about two hours of talking I went and checked on the kids, they were playing video games and telling the other kids how much cooler their dad is than everybody else. I walked back into the kitchen and looked out the backyard. Just as I was getting ready to turn around saw Tyler run through the yard into a wooded area. He was there for a few moments then he came back with someone. I wasn't able to see who it was until they stepped out from the trees. I tried to open the back door but it was locked, I ran to the front of the house and ran around the house. when I got there they both were gone.  I pulled my phone out and called Tyler.

"Hello?" He was confused.

"Where are you?"

"Amy, you are out of breath what's going on?"

"I saw you too, where is he? Please, I just want to hold him."

"Busted, we are in the front of the house."

I ended the call and ran to the front when I saw him the tears started to flow. Before I could wrap my arms around him I was tackled to the ground.

"GET OFF OF HER!" Mark screamed.

"You are not supposed to see him yet." I don't know the voice but I fought for them to get off, Mark ripped them off of me and helped me up wrapping his arms around me.

"I missed you so fucking much," I said as he pulled my chin in and kissed me when we pulled away he said,

"I have been waiting so long to do that. I am so sorry for not calling you last night, I called Tyler so he could give me a ride here."

"It's okay."

"No, it's not. You cried yourself to sleep. I am so sorry." He kissed my forehead.

"How long are you here for?"

"Forever, something happened and I told them that I will keep my mouth shut as long as they let me go home and never ever call me again."

"DADDY!"

We turned our heads and the kids came running to him, he let me go and picked them up hugging them.

"I missed you so much." He said.

"We missed you too."

"I promise I am home for good. No more leaving." He said kissing the tops of their heads, then carried them inside the house.

"Can you play video games with us?? PLEASE!" The kids begged.

"They have been telling the other kids that you are better at video games than their dad's," I said.

"Oh, really, well I guess I need to prove my kids right." He took my hand and we all went to the game room as Mark beat the other dad's asses in different games.

Once the party was over Mark drove us home, he tucked the kids into bed then met me in the kitchen.

"It's like I never left." He said wrapping his arms around me, "Tyler feels bad for taking your phone call."

"As long as I get you for the rest of my life, he can have the phone call."

"I will let him know."

"So how long do you think until the kids have a bad dream and want to sleep in our bed."

"Not long, so we better get our butts to bed."
