Amy's pov

"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to my sweet angel, happy birthday to you!" I carried in the cake to my now 6 year old. "Blow out your candles and make a wish!"

She thought long and hard then blow out her candles.

"Great job peanut!" I kissed the top of her head.

"Momma, did dad send anything?" She asked as I cut her a slice.

"No honey, I'm sorry."

"Do you think he forgot again?" she sounded so sad.

"I don't know, but I do know that there are chocolate chips in this cake!"

Her eyes lit up,

"Really!" She took her fork digging into the piece of  cake.

I got the few gifts that I was able to afford for her from the hiding spot.

"Happy birthday." I said, as I put them down next to her.

"Are any of them from dad?" She asked with a mouthful of cake.

"They haven't come in yet."

"I know, he is so busy. I just wish he would send a card. Or at least visit."

I sat next to her.

"I know it is hard honey."

"All of my friends get to see their dad all the time, I am the only one whoes dad doesn't live with them!"

"Are they making fun of you for it?"

She nodded her head, breaking my heart.

"I will have a chat with him." I wiped her tears.

"You always do, and it only works for a few days then he goes away again."

"Do you want me to talk to him?"

She nodded her head yes.

"Okay, I will talk to him. But let's eat this cake then we can open your gifts."

She nodded her head again and gave me a forced smile.

After she went to bed, I called him.

"Do you know what time it is?" He growled on the phone.

"Do you know what day it is?"

"No. Why?"

"It is your daughter's birthday. Tim, you said that you would show and she waited for you."

"Oh shit, that was today?" he sounded annoyed.

"Yes, and now all the kids at school are making fun of her because her father is not around."

"I am too busy running a business."

"They are 6! They don't know or care about your job. Why do we have to keep having this conversation?"

"Because you keep calling to have it."

"Keep this shit up and we are leaving, I will get court papers and change her name and you will never see your daughter again."

"You can't do that! I have papers saying that you have to stay here."

"That is only if I take the child support, I don't have to take it."

"You need that money. You can't make it in the real world."

"You are so stupid, that money goes into your daughter's collage fund! There is more than enough money in there for her to go to the school of her dreams. If you don't start making an effort in your child's life, then she will be far away from you."
