"Ryan is a nice boy who lives down the street, he helps me with the farm animals since I live alone." Aunt Liliana says with a smile as she serves me a bowl of cereal. "I go into town every morning to sell some jam but he is always here to look over the babies." She then scratches the head of Peach. I eat the Cheerios and nod as I listen to Liliana.

"So...are you leaving today?" I ask and she nods, "I am. I'm about to pack up the truck and get going, Ryan will be here any time now." I watch as she retrieves a wooden box from the table and walks out the door. She quickly comes back in to grab another box, then another, then another, and then finally she waves to me and locks the door behind her.

I put my empty bowl into the sink and wash it out before putting it in the dish washer. Hopefully I put it in the right place, I've never had a dish washer. I vaguely remember having one when my family lived in an apartment but that was years ago. I sit on the couch and let Peach curl up beside me, Ollie is off scratching something that I don't really care to investigate. I'm about to turn on my phone and text Keith when I hear a sharp knock from the front door. I scramble to stand up and I peer out of the window shades.

I see a tall African American boy standing with a backpack, he rolls back and forth on his heels but other than that he's completely still. I watch him knock one more time before I realize I need to answer the door. I unlock it and open it quickly. "Hi." I start, "Are you Ryan?" The boy nods, he looks a bit older than me. "Call me Kinkade please, it's my last name." He says in a low voice and I nod and open the door wider. "Come on in Kinkade. You're supposed to show me what to do right?" The boy nods and walks in the house. He smiles widely as Ollie and Peach both bark and race to him.

He gets on the floor and nuzzles the two dogs, he must be really close if the dogs love him this much. I awkwardly stand behind him and the energetic dogs, but I don't want to interrupt so I kind of just watch with a lopsided smile. Kinkade stands up after giving Peach one final belly rub and turns to me. "Let's get started with work shall we?"

"UGH STOP! NO NO NO!" I scream as I run from a chicken. I was trying to just peacefully take her eggs but now she's chasing me through out the whole coop. I'm still screaming bloody murder by the time Kinkade comes rushing in the dim chicken coop. "What the-" He's cut off by my screams and soon he starts chasing behind me, behind the chicken. I'm turning to run around one of the tall shelves that holds the chickens when I see Kinkade dive forward and catch the chicken. He holds her tightly to his chest and I watch in awe as the chicken calms down.

Kinkade brings her back to her roost and sets her down gently. He manages to grab an egg from her as well, something I couldn't do without this happening. "Ha ha- thanks." I chuckle and get a glare from Kinkade. "I told you to be gentle and quiet. So why do I come back to you screaming and running wildly like- like" I watch as he struggles for words, "Like a chicken!" I wring my hands and look down at the ground guiltily. I bite my cheek to conceal my laughter, I guess I did look like a chicken. I meet his eyes and I can't help but chuckle at his words.

His angry expression breaks and soon he's laughing quietly behind his hand. We walk out of the chicken coop with egg baskets in each hand. I sheild my eyes with my hand because of how sunny it is this morning. I've managed to get the chicken eggs but now I have to move on to the cow. Apparently we are supposed to milk her? I have never milked a cow before and I don't know how I'll do. Spoiler alert: I'm amazing at milking cows. I guess you could call me a cow guru. Or a cow mooroo.

(please don't leave, read my story.)

Kinkade and I take the chicken eggs into the house and set the cute baskets on the table. "Thanks for your help. Even if it wasn't very helpful." Kinkade says gruffly as he meets my eyes a little awkwardly. I salute him and give him my goofiest grin, "I'm always at your service sir." Kinkade rolls his eyes but I see him smile. That's good, I was a little worried he'd be uptight the entire time we know each other.

As the two of us walk back out of the house and back into the blistering heat Kinkade asks, "So when do you think your first appointment with Liliana is?" I look away from him and out at the open field as we walk. "Probably this weekend. When she's not in town." Kinkade doesn't answer, instead we just reach the cow's barn in silence and I peer in the door to see a large cow with the derpiest looking face I've ever seen.

And yes I have seen Shiro's face when he's lost in thought.

"What's her name?" I ask Kinkade as I lightly pet her. It feels weird but oddly comforting to pet a cow. "We just call her Betsy." I roll my eyes, "That's a little cliche for a cow isn't it?" Kinkade shrugs but then turns to get a bucket. I coo at the cow as it rubs its head softly against my head. "Who needs a new name? You do! Yes you do! You need something original yeah?" I hum as I look her up and down.

"I've got it!" I say with a smirk and my finger pointed straight up in the air. "Oh yeah? What's that?" Kinkade asks, completely uninterested, "Her new name is Kaltenecker!" Kinkade's loud scoff can be heard across the barn, "She's a girl. Betsy suits her better." I disagree in a hushed tone as I press my face against Kaltenecker's side. "I think it suits her perfectly." A soft moo makes me smile. Until I remember what I will be doing with this cow in about five minutes.
