I was the last one to leave. Everytime my daughter left for school, a pang of worry would spring up inside me. Which Shai liked to call 'Father with a teenage daughter's worry.' I park in my usual space, grab my laptop and walk towards the building.
My phone starts to buzz and when i check the caller ID, i'm surprised bc she hasn't called in a long time. I answer the phone.....
Me: Hey Ruth!
Her: Hey how are you?
Me: Good. Why did you call?
Her: *silence*
Me: Ruth?
Her: Yeah! um i just wanted to invite you and your family out to dinner.
Me: uh sure when and where?
Her: Whatever place you guys want to go.
Me: ok! I'll let you know as soon as possible. Bye!
I hang up before she can reply.
Ruth hasn't called me since I married Shailene and now that I have a daughter, she's asking me out to dinner?
Once I sign in for work and get over with the first meeting of the day. I sit down in the lobby and call Shailene. I tell her about my conversation with Ruth. She thinks that it's perfectly normal for an ex- to ask you out to dinner with your family and stuff.
I leave my office during lunch break to pick up Hermione from school and drop her home. When I up outside the High School building, I see her talking to Ansel and Violetta's son, Liam Elgort. When she see's me, she gets into the car saying "Hey dad!". " Hey honey!" I reply hugging her. The entire drive home we talk about iPhones and iMacs.
I drop her home and go back to my office. But now there is a satisfied part of me because now I know what to buy my teenage daughter for her birthday which is two weeks away.
