     It had taken him a while to get where he was. The confidence wasn't easy, it wasn't hard either, but he simply hadn't known how to come out to the other side. He had known, had somehow felt this would be the end result, but he didn't expect it to be so harsh, so unforgiving. His heart wasn't supposed to shatter in a million pieces.
     "Look, I'm flattered and all, but," Virgil started, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. "I don't feel the same. This is not some fairytale where you get who you go for and... I... I'm sorry, Princey."
     Then the door was closed, closing him out from the anxious side he'd just burdened. Or, at least, he felt he'd done just that. Roman simply, robotically, turned on his heel and went back to his room, not even realizing the tears that streamed down his face. I am a prince, he told himself. I will be fine.
     He closed his own bedroom door behind him, letting out a shakey breath as he stumbled his way to his bed and flopped quite ungracefully down.
     I am a Prince, I will get through this. He repeated, over and over in his head, not even hearing the knock on his door. Nor did he hear when the door opened and closed, a certain trait walking over to him.
     "Roro?" Came a soft voice, causing Roman to tense up and get up, quickly wiping his eyes. "Oh Roman..."
     "I'm fine," Roman stated, crossing his arms to try to seem like it, but Patton only frowned at that.
     "Roman, don't lie," he said gently, but firmly. "What's wrong?"
     "I... I finally told Virgil my feelings," Roman started, watching Pattons expression fall. "He... Well... He doesn't feel the same obviously."
     "Roro, he's with Logan..." Patton said hesitantly. "I'm sorry, Ro..."
     "He's... When...?" Roman got out slowly, his voice cracking. "How... How did I not notice?"
     "They're really touchy-feely, Roro..." Patton sits next to the broken hearted trait, wrapping his arms around the prince. "Well, more so than either of them usually are to either of us."
     Roman buried his head into Pattons shoulder, tears falling once again. "I'm an idiot..." He murmured, Patton immediately shaking his head.
     "No, you're not, Ro," he said, rubbing Romans back. "It really isn't too obvious, yknow how the two of 'em are."
     Roman merely let out a small nod against Pattons shoulder, taking a shuddering breath.
     "But Ro, I'm here for you, alright? So just let it out..."
     And he did, he let the dam break for once, clinging onto Patton, who held him with the modt care he'd ever thought he'd receive.
°°°°°
     It took a week for Roman to confront Virgil again, telling him he's sorry, that he hadn't known of Logan's and his relationship and Virgil was much kinder, apologizing himself for his harsh words.
     It took a month for his feeling to fade from Virgil, surely it had only been a case of his first love. He would certainly be able to bpunce back, especially when he sees how Logan has been smiling much more with Virgil around. That was enough for him, because Virgil would always smile in return.
     Roman, of course, started to hang out with Patton a lot more. Seeing as the cpuple wanted their own quiet time (though Roman surely thought one time they were certainly anything but, and had invited Patton to wander the imagination with him.)
~~~~~~~ i know i have a lot of skips~~~
    Roman sits next to Patton on the barren spot they could find, smiling at the fatherly trait who is already reaching out to the beautiful (and quite unreal) flowers before them. Roman knows of Pattons love of flowers (and well anything cute really), so he invited him often tomake flower crowns. This time nodifferent from the rest, only more flowers that Roman had Logan help him with (after prying the nerd away from the emo nightmare for once in the past week.)
     Roman reaches out too, nabbing some light blue and white tulips (ones he knows are Pattons favourites), beginning a flower crown. Other than the rustling of leaves and grass, alonv with the flowers around them and the rare bird song, the only sound was Pattons (beautiful, in Roman's opinion) humming as the bubbly man worked with his own red, gold and white flowers.
     Patton finishes before Roman, giggling as he sets the crown on Romans head. Roman laughs and, without thinking, pecks Patton on the cheek as thanks, his focus still on the half finished flower crown in his hands. Pattons face flushes, his eyes wide in surprise because did Roman really just kiss him?
     Patton sits still, unsure if Roman had meant to do. Roman soon turns to him, setting the now finished crown on Pattons head, blinking once he sees the blush on Pattons cheeks. "Are you alright, Pat?" Roman asks, tilting his head, causing the red crown upon his head to tilt with it. His own blush rising to his cheeks when he sees the way Pattons eyes soften with fondness that he is quite sure is directed at himself.
     "Yeah, thank you, Roro!" Pat exclaims, leaning forward to kiss Roman without any hesitance because, surely, if Roman had kissed him without thinking there must be feelings. Patton was right when he felt Roman kissing back, his surprisingly soft hand going to Pattons cheek.
     When they part, they both stare, stunned and breathless from the most magnificent kiss they'd had. "Wow," Roman murmurs, slowly starting to smile.
     Pat nods, agreeing without words before taking a deep breath. "I uh... Really like you, Roro."
     "I guessed, Pat," Roman laughs softly, not mocking. "I like you too." Then they're once again kissing, gently and sweetly.
     And maybe, Roman thought. It wasn't a fairytale, but he wouldn't mind spending the rest of his life with Patton.
