---------- Chapter 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Deidre's POV)

Robes? A wand? A cauldron? Seriously?! No freaking way! Where in the world am I going to find these things? A costume shop?!

I can't believe this! I'm a witch? How is that even possible? I know Harry is a wizard...but we're cousins. And Dudley sure as hell isn't a wizard. Mum and dad look like they would pass out at even the mention of the word 'magic', so there is no way they are magical!

"Momma?" I ask tentatively, my eyes still pouring over the letter. Mum looks pale, but she looks up at me anyway, a small smile on her face. "Where am I supposed to get all these things?" I ask.

"I don't know, De," she mumbles, her eyes back to dad.

Honestly, I'm shocked they are even allowing me to attend Hogwarts! Not that I'm complaining though...but didn't Harry go at 11? Why am I only being offered a place at 15?

Just then, there's a knock on the door. Mum and dad exchange weary glances. I get off my chair, since its obvious no one else will be getting off their chairs anytime soon. I answer the door, and standing outside my door is a pretty girl with brown, curly hair and warm brown eyes.

"Hi! Are you Deidre?" she asks in an open, friendly voice.

I nod dumbly back at her, and she beams at me. "I'm Hermione Granger. I'm from Hogwarts. I thought you might need some help with getting your school stuff; maybe I could help you?" she offers kindly. This is so whack! A random stranger knocks on my door and just wants to help me out of the goodness of her heart?

"I, umm, would love that!" I exclaim, a little nervously.

She grins, and looks around the room for a few moments. "Umm, I know the letter got here late...and we only have like two days till the term actually starts, maybe we should go to Diagon Alley now?" she continues.

"Daygon Alley?" I ask in confusion. What in the world is that?

"Oh, right. Sorry, I forgot you don't know much about the wizarding world. Diagon Alley is this place where we can get everything you need for school. Shall we go now...?" she trails off. I nod and invite her in. She sits on the couch, and smiles at me. I dash into the kitchen and tell my parents. We have a low, heated discussion.

A half hour later, I'm ready to leave. I give my mum and dad hugs goodbye, wave at Dudley, and sporting my light carry bag, I trot after Hermione, out into the big, bad world! How exciting!

The moment we're past the bend, Hermione turns towards me, and takes my arm, linking it with hers. She leads me to the park in our neighbourhood. I strain my eyes and see a familiar boy sitting on the swing. I make a mad dash for the swings and jump into the guys outstretched hands.

"Harry!" I exclaim in pleasure.

He hugs me tight and then pulls away, a wacky grin on his face, "Hey, De! You didn't think I'd abandon you when you entered the Wizarding World did you?" he asks playfully shoving me. I just thrill out in laughter. So the girl is Harry's friend! That would make sense!

"De, this is Hermione Granger. She is one of the most amazing people I know and my best friend. And this is Ronald Weasley. He's my other best friend and just as equally amazing." Harry introduces. Hermione waves enthusiastically and Ron holds a hand up in greeting awkwardly. His face is about as red as his hair and he looks absolutely adorable!

"Harry, I'm a witch?" I ask, cocking my eyebrows. Harry just nods, a smile on his face. "Is that bad?" I ask, in a softer tone this time. I've been brought up to think having magic is a bad thing...
