---------- Chapter 6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Where are you going?" Kate's curious question greets me as I'm about to leave the common room. I whirl around and peer into the shadows. Kate grins at me and walks down the stairs towards me. "If I didn't know any better, I would think you were sneaking out, Dursley," she grins wickedly.

"Umm...I just want some fresh air?" I venture, stammering a little.

"Open a window?" she suggest subtly.

"Umm...I actually like walking in the cool night air, it allows me to gather my thoughts," I try again.

Kate grins and shifts her weight, one hand on her hips. "Has anyone ever told you you're a bad liar, Dursley?" she asks blankly.

Fine, maybe I should go with the truth for this one. "Kate...I'm going to meet Malfoy," I mumble under my breath. Kate shrieks in joy, her face lighting up.

"Malfoy is sooooo fine!" Kate practically squeals. I can't help but grin at her reaction. I press my hand over her mouth and she looks down at my hand questioningly.

"Unless you want the extremely fine Malfoy to hear, I'd suggest you shut up!" I reply grinning. She nods her head and gives me a huge wink. She wonders back up the stairs and I take a deep breath.

I climb out the little portrait and stand in the middle of the empty corridor feeling like a fool. I should have realised Malfoy would blow me off. I shake my head and curse under my breath in frustration.

"So, fine am I?" his voice floats over to me, and even though I can't see him, I know he's smirking.

Malfoy is sitting on the floor, watching me. I fake nonchalance and cock my head.

"Interesting outfit, Dursley," Malfoy murmurs, his eyes raking over me. I look at myself and cringe in embarrassment. I'm wearing my boxers and a tight t-shirt.

I groan to myself and whirl back towards the common room.

"Where are you going?!" Malfoy exclaims in shock.

I cock an eyebrow and shake my head, "I'm going to change," I explain simply.

All of a sudden, his warm hands are gripping my arms. "I much prefer you in your present outfit," he whispers into my ear, sending a shiver down my spine.

"But it's cold," I mumble, my cheeks on fire.

Malfoy shrugs out of his jacket and drapes it over me. I can smell Malfoy's heady cologne, and I inhale deeply. He merely watches me and smirks. He then grabs my hand and leads me down the corridor and into an empty classroom.

He closes the door behind us and huddles up in the corner next to me. "You wanted me to explain, right?" he asks in a small voice.

"Do whatever you want, Malfoy, I honestly cannot be bothered," I murmur, completely lying.

"I was a Death Eater. My parents were too. What chance did I have?!" he exclaims in frustration. "I...did the only thing I've been taught to...I'm a Malfoy, damnit!" he spits disgustedly.

"And what exactly does it mean to be a Malfoy?" I ask genuinely curious.

"It means family pride is more important than anything else, it means I'm not allowed to show emotions to the public..." he mumbles, his grey eyes unfathomable.

"Malfoy, I...don't get why you even bother with me. I'm not a pureblood, I'm a fifth year and I'm Harry's cousin," I mutter.

"Potter is your cousin?!" Malfoy explodes, jumping to his feet, staring down at me in horror.

"Yes?"

"This is bad! This was a mistake..." he mumbles to himself. I take his hand and pull him back down beside me.

"Deep breaths, Draco," I murmur. He's even paler than usual. "I've heard so many horrible stories about you," I continue in an undertone.

"I know," he mumbles in frustration.

"Draco, have you changed?"

He stares into my eyes for a long time before nodding. I know he's telling me the truth. I shoot him a brief smile and squeeze his hand gently. "Okay, I believe you, Draco," I say simply.

"Just like that?" he asks incredulously.

"Yes? You were right all along, people do change. And I've known you for two days, but the guy who helped me with my bag, checked in on me and defended me in front of a bitch can't be all that bad," I shrug nonchalantly. Draco shoots me a huge grin, his face looking more like the teenager he is.

"So?" I ask after a while, breaking the silence.

"Merlin, you're beautiful, you know that?" he whispers under his breath, sending another shiver down my spine. I giggle nervously and Draco smiles down at me.

"Draco, tell me about yourself," I demand, smiling at him.

He smirks at me and stands up. "Have you ever tried flying before?" he asks abruptly. I raise my eyebrows quizzically. "Of course you haven't!" he smirks, holding a hand out for me.

"Draco, it's getting late," I mumble.

"Come on! Just one round?" he pleads.

"Tomorrow," I compromise. Draco pouts a little then decides to accept the terms. He pulls me to my feet, and releases my hand immediately.

"Deidre?" he asks tentatively, "do you by any chance want to...maybe go to that party, dance thing with me tomorrow?" he asks, his cheeks a bright pink.

I feel my throat tighten and I nod in response, ducking my head to hide my own pink cheeks. Draco releases a sigh in relief and walks me to the common rooms.

He leans against the wall, as I watch him. He smiles, a genuine smile, not a smirk or anything! Then I shake my head and turn to the portrait that conceals the opening of the common room. And then...blank! I don't know the password!

"Don't tell me...you don't know the password," he grins.

I roll my eyes and begin pacing, wondering what to do. I could sleep on the floor, I guess? Or the classroom? Or I could keep banging on the portrait, maybe Kate would be awake, right?

"Fortuna Major," Draco murmurs. The portrait swings open, and he stands there, grinning at me. "Milady?" he holds out his hand. I place my hand in his, and he raises it up to his lips, his eyes watching my reaction.

I blush furiously and head into the common room. Then whirl back, looking at him. He watches me in confusion.

"You aren't with Parkinson, are you?" I ask. I completely forgot that bit!

"No," he grins.

I grin back, blow a kiss at him and trot into the common room. The portrait swings close behind me, and I'm over the moon!

"Ahem!" the masculine voice clears his throat.

Damn!
