----------- Chapter 35 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“It’s not what you think,” I whisper.

“Really? So you do realise what it looks like, right?” Draco asks, coldly.

“I told you, Draco! Why won’t you believe me? A Malfoy should never dirty his hands with the likes of her!” Pansy murmurs, softly, her eyes searching Draco’s.

“Don’t tell me what I should or should not do, Parkinson,” Draco spits, turning his back on her.

I quickly release Nate’s arm and walk towards my boyfriend. He’s obviously angry. But he must let me explain.

“Can we discuss this in private?” I ask softly, not meeting his gaze.

Draco doesn’t respond. He merely gestures for me to follow him, and obediently, I do. Steeling my courage, I reach out to him, and take his hand, my heart jumping the moment our skin touches. His head instant whips to the side, staring in shock at our interconnected hands.

And then, unbelievably, he shrugs his hand out of my grasp and picks up his pace. Pansy snickers as she passes me, obviously she’s following us, she’d never give up the opportunity to watch me get hurt. But I didn’t have time for her, not now. I could feel my heart ache painfully. I can’t believe Draco just did that.

My hot tears jolt me back into the present. Draco’s already a good fifty feet ahead; he didn’t even wait for me. I shake my head in frustration, trying to stop the tears.

That’s when a warm thumb wipes away my tears. But instead of toughening up, I just succumb to the warm touch and begin sobbing. Nate wraps his arms around me, pulling me towards him. The logical part of me knows that this is just going to make Draco even angrier. But I feel so alone and hurt, the warm embrace isn’t something I can just walk away from.

“It’s going to be okay,” he murmurs into my hair, massaging my back gently.

“No, it’s not! And it’s all because of you! Don’t hit on girls who already have boyfriends!” I hiss, knocking my fists against his chest. I’m too close to put much strength into the hits and he doesn’t even react, he just allows me to keep pounding his chest.

“You should probably follow after his majesty. I’m sure the golden boy can’t bear the thought of being made to wait for someone,” Nate murmurs bitterly, stepping away from me.

I give him my best glare and stalk down the cobblestoned street where Draco disappeared to. I keep walking, and eventually I find myself on the outskirts of the woods he and I had wondered into while we were hiding our relationship from Harry, Ron and Hermione.

“Took your time, I see,” Draco remarks coldly, leaning against one of the tall trees.

“You didn’t exactly wait, did you?” I retort back, running my hand through my hair in frustration.

“I came back so I could confront Pansy. For you!” he spits, his face bitter.

“I told you I could handle it!” I whisper, my eyes beginning to tear once again.

“I’m your boyfriend. I’m supposed to look after you, and if ever anybody hurts or upsets you, it’s my job to make sure that person stops whatever it is they’re doing,” Draco intones without any emotion.
