---------- Chapter 12 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You plan to sit there all night?" he asks, I can actually hear the smirk in his voice.
In any normal circumstance, I would have run to him and melted into his warm embrace, but it isn't any normal circumstance. I'm basically the walking Hogwarts version of the Scarlet Latter!
"Deid? Sweetie, are you okay?" he asks, worried now.
I continue staring at the ceiling, the tears spilling over. I don't even make the effort to disguise my crying. He wouldn't make fun of me.
He crouches down opposite me. He cups my face and makes me look him in the eyes. "What happened?"
"I'm beginning to wonder..." I whisper.
"Whether our getting together is going to constantly cause you this much hurt, right?" he guesses, spot on.
I nod tightly. I hate that I'm even wondering this! But I can't help it! I mean, I love him, I really do. But if this is really going to be the consequences of this decision...maybe I should wait? When Draco leaves school, nobody would make a big deal whether or not boyfriend used to be in Slytherin when he was still studying.
"I'm sorry," he whispers, wiping away the tear tracks on my face.
"It's not your fault...I just didn't expect them to take it so bad, you know? They told me not to sit with them for dinner either..." I trail off, my voice cracking a little.
"I'm sorry," he repeats, tucking my hair behind my ears. "But you could sit at my table? With my friends?" he ventures.
"They'd kill me!" I whisper. Me? Sit with the Slytherin's? I'm not a pure-blood!
"Nah! They'd treat you right royal, trust me," Draco murmurs, his lips on my forehead.
He stands up and holds his hand out for me, "Come on, we'll miss dinner." I nod and take his hand. He pulls me up and wraps his long arm around my shoulder.
"I must look a mess," I whisper, trying to do some damage control.
"No. You look lovely. Don't sweat it, okay?" he whispers.
He leads me to the great hall. The moment I step through the huge double doors, my eyes automatically flash to the Gryffindor table. Harry isn't there, but Ron and Ginny are. They eye me coldly. I feel my heart lurch in anger.
Draco doesn't notice. He waves to one of his friends and leads me to the Slytherin table. I swear Ron and Ginny looked shocked! I almost wanted to sit here permanently!
Draco sits down comfortable opposite another seventh year Slytherin, nonchalantly. I stand a little further back, not quite sure what to do. Draco smirks, gets up, takes my hand and leads me to the table. He pushes me down on the bench and sits down himself.
"Deid, meet Blaise Zabini. Blaise this is Deidre Dursley," he introduces.
I smile nervously at Blaise who assesses me with raised eyebrows. After a while, he relaxes into a welcoming smile and holds his hand out for me to shake.
"I'm glad you and Draco are together. You can't possibly imagine how much he talked my ear off confessing-"
Draco covers Blaise's mouth, turning an adorable shade of pink. Blaise and I laugh at this and Draco smirks a little.
"So, to what do we owe the honour?" Blaise asks suddenly.
"Pardon me?" I counter, confused.
"No Gryffindor has ever wanted to sit with us," Blaise explains.
"Oh...well...it seems like my friends are fine with ostracising me just because of the guy I'm with," I confess, chagrined.
"Heh. Comes with the territory of dating a Slytherin...or perhaps it only happens when you date a Malfoy," Blaise teases, earning him a shove from Draco.
"Ohmygod! What is THAT doing at our table?!" Pansy shrieks, as she walks into the great hall.
"Get over it, Parkinson!" Blaise murmurs in a bored tone.
"Get over what, Zabini?" Pansy spits at him before turning to Draco, "You have a lot of nerve bringing a filthy mudblood to our table," she shrieks, loud enough for everyone in the hall to hear.
Draco's pale cheeks blaze a sudden red. He stands up so forcefully, that everyone in the hall turns to stare.
"Don't you dare, Parkinson," he whispers menacingly.
"Or what?" Pansy asks, cockily.
"Or I'll make your life more miserable! Why don't you just get over it? I'm not in love with you nor will I ever be! Nobody likes you! And you know why? Because you're clingy and high strung, and arrogant and annoying! I used to be just like you! I know. But I grew up! And it's time for you to grow up too!" Draco huffs.
"How dare you?" Pansy asks, her voice breaking.
"It's the bloody truth! Nobody in this whole school likes you! NOBODY! All your friends? The moment you leave these halls, everyone will laugh at how Pansy Parkinson was insulted in front of everyone. They will laugh! You know why? Because nobody has ever or will ever like you unless you change! So get over yourself!" He practically yells.
I see Pansy's eyes get misty and she runs out of the hall. And sure enough, the moment she's out of the hall, everyone starts laughing. Draco looks like he regrets what he did, but he doesn't say anything else. He sits back down, looking down at his food, broodingly.
I get up and walk out of the hall. I know everyone is wondering what is going on. But I won't forgive myself unless I do something.
I jog up to the First Floor Bathrooms. I walk into the girl's bathroom, and I see a figure hunched over by the window, her body wrecked by sobs. I quietly walk over to her and sit down beside her.
"Pansy? Are you okay?" I whisper.
"Why would you care?" she shrieks in between tears.
"Because I know what it's like to lose all your friends in a sudden sweep," I whisper.
"Just leave Dursley! You win, okay? You can have Draco!" she murmurs bitterly.
"I didn't come to shove it in your face, Pansy. You have been nothing but horrible to me, but...you still deserve to have someone come in and check on you. So here I am," I continue. Gosh! I must be mad!
"No way anybody can be so nice! What do you want?" she asks, exasperated.
"Honestly, there are a ton of people who can be that nice. You obviously mix with the wrong people. No guy is ever worth your tears, you know?" I whisper, echoing what my mum used to tell me.
She looks up at me and actually gives me a watery smile. The Pansy Parkinson smiled at mua! Can you believe that?!
"Thank you, Deidre...and I'm sorry for being such a bitch," she whispers almost inaudibly.
I smile back at her and stand up, holding my hand out for her. She takes my hand and gets up. She walks over to the sinks and washes her face. Then the both of us leave the bathroom and head back to the Great Hall.
I lead Pansy back to the Slytherin table, and she stands behind Draco. But before she can say a thing, Draco stands up and pulls her into a hug, "I'm sorry, Pansy. No matter what you did or said, I shouldn't have been so harsh in public," he whispers.
Pansy hugs him back, "No, you were right. I'm sorry, Draco. I really am. And you found yourself an amazing girl...you are one lucky guy," she whispers.
Draco pulls away from her and looks at me, smiling. I smile weakly back. Draco pulls me against his chest, "you constantly surprise me, Deid," he whispers, kissing the top of my head.
I smile at him, and sink deeper into his warm embrace.
