---------- Chapter 23 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Are you awake?” I whisper quietly.

Draco groans quietly and his hand around me tightens. I’m going to take that as a partially awake.

Draco and I are cuddled up on the bed, resting fully before our shopping spree later today. The moment his head touched the pillow, Draco was out like a light. I guess I wasn’t all that tired since I did sleep earlier on.

I lift his hand up and turn over on the bed, so I’m facing him. I brush his platinum blond hair out of his face and watch as his chest rises and falls following his deep breathing.

Can life get any better?

I’m a witch

I have an amazing boyfriend

My family adores my boyfriend

Hermione Granger is my best friend

And my cousin seems to have accepted my boyfriend!

Oo! And I get to go shopping with the said boyfriend today! Damn, there’s no way life could get any better!

“Are you still asleep?! By the time you get down, it’ll be too late to shop!” Hermione moans as she bangs the door open and stops short.

Draco jumps up, his hair messed up and his eyes bleary.

“Oh gosh! I’m sorry!” Hermione squeaks before quickly exiting the room, closing the door behind her.

“Guess that was the wake up call,” Draco murmurs dryly, his voice thick with sleepiness. “I’m going to go have a shower. I’ll meet you downstairs,” he continues, stretching.

I nod my head, neaten up and head downstairs for some breakfast. Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione seem to have already been done, but they sit there waiting none the less.

“Morning, sleepy head!” Harry greets, smiling easily.

“I was awake. Draco wasn’t,” I whispered quietly and everyone fidgets uncomfortably.

“Deid? Don’t take this the wrong way...but are you sure you’re ready for Draco? I mean...he is eighteen and you are fifteen,” Ron muses.

“Shut up, Ronald!” Hermione chastises primly.

“Now we have to put up with Malfoy’s presence?” Ginny asks crossly from Harry’s other side.

“If putting up with Malfoy means I get to spend time with Deidre, then yes,” Harry answers simply causing Ginny to scowl.

Heh! Take that Weasley!

Just then, Draco trots down the stairs, his eyes unfathomable as he takes in my company. He walks over to my side, kisses the top of my head before scooting onto the bench beside me. And that’s when the awkward silence begins.

“Good sleep Draco?” Hermione asks mischievously, an evil glint in her eyes.

Draco cracks a huge grin and wags his eyebrows, “unbelievably so,” he murmurs huskily. Hermione actually blushes! Draco and I erupt into a fit of laughter and I only sober up when I realise Ron and Harry are staring and Ginny is glaring.

I clear my throat and order breakfast for Draco and I. The both of us scarf down our breakfast hungrily before fetching our jackets. The rest meet us at the door and the six of us set of to Diagon Alley.

Draco sticks out like a sore thumb, his billowing black jacket is cut impeccably, hinting at killer pricing. Ron, Harry, Ginny, Hermione and I are dressed very much more simply. And really, Draco’s platinum blonde hair and haughty features tend to stand him out in a crowd.

“Nice ring Deid,” Hermione says casually, making me blush a bright red. Draco grins down at me and wraps an arm across my shoulders. I notice Harry and Ron exchanging a look in front of us. Yup, Harry and Ron are so busy wrapped up in their conspiracy theories about Draco that they left their girlfriends behind.

Draco offers Hermione an arm, and the other to me. So the three of us walk arm in arm through Diagon Alley. It takes a few minutes before the boys realise what’s going on and the scowling begins again. Ginny quickens her pace to catch up with her brother and boyfriend while Draco, Hermione and I walk leisurely laughing about random things.

“De, you realise the moment we get back to school, I’ll have to focus on my NEWTS right?” Draco asks suddenly.

I nod my head tightly.

Yes, I know. I’m fifteen, preparing for my OWLS while Draco prepares for his NEWTS. I hate talk about exams and not only because the exams are brutal. The moment his NEWTS are over, Draco and I won’t be school mates anymore. What happens then?

As if he knows what I’m thinking about, Draco kisses the top of my head.

Ugh! How I hate head kissing! It’s so brotherly!

“Speaking of exams, are you prepared for your OWLS?” Hermione asks between a mouthful of her Chocolate Frog.

“No,” I admit truthfully. I mean, most of my time has been spent with Draco...I’ve been kind of distracted.

“I could tutor you?” Draco offers sweetly.

“No! I’ll tutor her! God knows what will happen if the two of you are left alone in a room,” Hermione huffs, her eyes already calculating.

Oh no! Why do I have a feeling Hermione tutoring me is going to be a huge pain in the neck? Oh wait...because Hermione is such a perfectionist!

“I want to stop at Flourish and Blotts!” Hermione suddenly announces, steering us into the book shop.

Draco and I share a grin. Hermione drifts off to her Ancient Ruins section, while Draco and I hold hands, walking aimlessly through the aisles.

“Hey, De? No matter what happens next year, no matter where I am, remember that I love you, okay?” he murmurs suddenly, bending down to kiss me.

I kiss him back...but this kiss feels weird...

It’s almost as if...

He’s saying goodbye.
