---------- Chapter 5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I pull my long blond braid nervously, making sure my hair is neat. I take another look in the mirror, smoothening out my robes. Breathe, Dursley...you'll be fine, I remind myself.

I'm so supremely nervous about the first actual day. It's really early, and everyone is only now getting up. I hurry down the stairs into the empty common room and sit on one of the armchairs, waiting impatiently for Ron and Harry to come down.

A quarter of an hour later, they finally make their appearance, their eyes bloodshot and looking like the walking dead. They mumble something at me and gesture for me to follow. We go down to the dining hall and sit at the long table. Hermione is already at the table, waiting for us, grinning widely. And I can't help but notice that Malfoy is at his house table, also watching us enter the hall.

Being the head girl, Hermione has her own room, right beside Malfoy's, close to the teacher's rooms; in case of any emergencies, I suppose.

Ron and Hermione play footsies under the table, and Harry tries his hardest to not fall asleep at the table. I shove down my breakfast, barely tasting anything.

"Are you nervous, Deidre?" Hermione asks kindly. I grin at her in response. She lays her gentle hand over mine to reassure me. I nod once at her, grinning and turn back to my empty plate. Malfoy is sitting right behind Hermione, so I can see him every time I talk to Hermione.

"De? What happened last night?" Harry gently probes.

I feel my cheeks begin to heat up, to the confusion of Hermione. "Last night?" I fake innocence.

"Yes. I heard Malfoy came to the common rooms," Harry continues. Hermione's eyes widen and she looks in disbelief at Harry.

I shrug, "Yeah, he came. He said some stuff, I said some stuff," I shrug again.

Harry nods in understanding and gives me a gentle squeeze of the shoulder, grinning the whole while. Ron looks just about as happy for some reason.

By this time, the dining hall is packed with students and teachers. Harry, Ron, Hermione and I sit around and talk for a while before McGonagall calls everyone to attention.

"Students, we have decided to start a new tradition in Hogwarts. We want to have a back to school dance tomorrow night," McGonagall says simply, sitting down again. Everyone seems stoked at the news, but I just groan into my hand.

"Is something wrong?" Ron asks.

"Nothing...I guess a back to school dance is just so cliché," I murmur.

"It is?" he seems shocked. Oh...he's never been to muggle school before.

"It's not that big a deal, De. It'll be fun. Everyone will get to have some fun before the real studying begins," Harry says trying to get me excited.

"I can't dance. I'm new here, and the only people I know are the three of you!" I exclaim in frustration. "You know what, it doesn't even matter. I should get to class," I murmur, suddenly just wanting to get away.

As I get up, Ginny prances into the hall, and sneaks up on Harry, giving him a passionate kiss. Okay...? She'll definitely be going with Harry. Ron and Hermione will be together. I don't want to be some lame fifth wheel; dateless and friendless! Maybe I just won't go for the dance...hmmm.

I walk out of the dining hall and head for my first class, Potions. As I walk through the hallway, a group of Slytherin's approach me. A hard faced girl walks in front of everyone else, as if she's their boss. She has shoulder length black hair and a very haughty expression.
