Chapter Six
I am so done with school work.
Loving to learn is one thing, being suffocated by school work is an entirely different, horrible, thing.
"ONE MORE WEEKEND UNTIL HALLOWEEN!" Vivian busts through our dorm door. with Calvin in tow.
"You choose to date her." I laugh at Calvin's 'ugh shut up already' expression.
Midterms are finally almost over.
I have one more thing due Tuesday and after that it's back to regularly paced lessons.
Currently I am procrastinating the assignment by reading my book before tomorrow's class.
"I think I am going to sleep by Calvin tonight." Vivian tells me. "But want to do a movie night first? I don't really want to go when all of the parties are going on."
"No?" I raise an eyebrow. "Gotta save up all your partying for Halloween?"
"Honestly yeah." She sighs, not picking up on my jesting tone, and goes to sit on her bed.
Vivian slept by Calvin most of this week, so it doesn't surprise me that she'll be there tonight. Things seem to be more serious with him than anyone else she's ever dated.
"Cami invited her to the party but she turned it down." Calvin tells me.
She has also been spending a lot more time with Cami this week.
"I thought you wanted to stay on her good side."
"Just because I turn down one event doesn't mean she won't like me. Besides, I'm a prize. Not that easy to win."
Most students finished their midterms this week, just unlucky me has a research paper due still. My eyes burn from too much screen time.
"What's this?" Calvin picks up the copy of Greek Poetry off my desk.
"Oh just some light reading." I answer, not giving much away.
I moved my record player on top of my chest of drawers this past weekend, after recuperating from my hangover, and now have my various sources for my paper scattered across it. The emerald book was buried under all of them. I haven't even looked at it because I've been so busy.
"Sappho and other Greek Poetry?" Calvin reads. "Sounds like school work."
"It's not." I snap, grabbing it back.
Calvin backs away in surrender and joins his girlfriend on her bed. I'm pretty sure that's her title, or his title or label or whatever.
I didn't mean to snap, but I'm running low on patience right now. It must be all the studying.
"A movie sounds great Viv." I tell my best friend, despite not wanting to stare at a screen.
"Okay yay!" Vivian claps excitedly. She leans over grab her laptop and says, "So many movies to choose from... but I think we should watch Halloween movies, get into the spirit."
"You and your obsessions." Cal rolls his eyes, but snuggles into her anyways. "Aza, come join us!"
Vivian pat's the space next to her, and I let her distract me with Tim Burton and Halloween town.
Halloween is a crazy holiday on college campuses: parties, slutty costumes, and at least one person getting their stomach pumped. But it can also be a lot of fun. Vivian has almost finished up with our costumes which I of course have been told nothing about. She loves surprises, I hate them. But that doesn't stop her from doing them for me all of the time.
