Chapter Twelve

"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" Vivian asks for the millionth time as I walk her to the cab her parents sent.

"Yes, I'm sure!" I exclaim, "Don't worry about me. Tons of people are staying back, Dio invited me to a Friendsgiving meal. I'll probably do that tomorrow."

"Okay!" She hugs me tight. "I'll see you Sunday."

"Looking forward."

When Vivian leaves, I text Sterling. We made plans for dinner tonight. We've been texting since Sunday and I mentioned that I had no plans. He invited me to town.

'I'll pick you up n a few. I've got my car.'

Dio and some of his friends, he didn't specify what friends, don't have a family get-together to go back to so he arranged a meal. Even though I don't really know them all that well, I thought it might be nice.

Even though I don't really know them all that well, I thought it might be nice to go, eat good food and drink.

'I'm outside.'

I grab my winter coat, the weather pretty frigid out and meet him by the entrance. Another person with a car on campus, but I don't bother asking how and just appreciate the warmth. Weather is so temperamental here, warm one day freezing the next. I wouldn't want to walk outside tonight.

"Henrietta's again?" Sterling asks.

"Why don't we just go to the coffee shop we bumped into each other at?" I suggest. The price of Henrietta's is unnecessary and I could use a good cup of coffee.

As usual, we are silent until we get there.

I don't normally enjoy silence. It's off putting and often times when it is quiet my thoughts spiral. But I don't get that way with Sterling. It feels as if we use our words with importance only.

Thankfully, we find a parking spot right in front and the shop doesn't close until ten, leaving us lots of the shop doesn't close until ten, leaving us lots of time. I should probably pop in to say hi to Poppy as well, so plan on it after my coffee.

"I never quite understood the appeal of coffee." Sterling notes as he sips his tea.

"Caffeine, keeps the blood flowing." I explain.

"Odd."

"You're odd." I childishly retort, then blush embarrassed. He does nothing but smile amused.
