Chapter Thirty Three

"I wish you didn't have to go." My mother says, not directed to me but rather Hades.

"As do we, but I am sure you understand the importance of education." He replies, utilizing his charm, laying ito n thick.

"Of course." My parents both nod, making me snort. Of course they say that in front of him, but when it comes to me they feel otherwise.

Hades helps my dad bring my suitcases to the car, he is driving us back to school. Apparently big bad God of the Underworld isn't a fan of airplanes.

We had our breakfast, we've said our goodbyes, and I am anxious to hit the road, but my grandiose parents are of course making it a big deal.

"Good bye." I hug them, unsure of when the next time I return will be. If things go bad... I can't afford to think that way, but it is always good to say goodbye.

My mother packed us sandwiches and snacks, acting significantly less hostile towards me since Hades has been around. She even whispered, "He's a good one," in my ear when she hugged me. It takes all my willpower not to shout, "HE'S SATAN," really loudly as we drive away.

The first hour of the car ride is silent, as I fiddle with the amber stone around my neck and browse through all of the instagram christmas posts. But the second hour, after a bathroom stop, Hades says, "You have wonderful parents."

"Yeah okay." I reply sarcastically. Of course he thinks so. They were on their best behavior around him. They are so fake around other people. For what? As to not tarnish their shiny reputation that they have worked so hard to create in order to impress people who don't even matter.

"I am sure I witnessed them in a different light than you, but I rather enjoyed them.

"Glad to hear it." I roll my eyes, and start eating one of the sandwiches so that I don't say anything else.

But I am still bothered by the return of the silence, so I turn on the radio to keep it away. The first thing that comes on is classical music, which makes a lot of sense, but I change it to classic rock instead.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Hades asks.

"Not really, I'd rather focus on what's going down tonight." I reply grumpily.

"There is no way to know what to expect." He tells me. "But we can hope it will confirm our beliefs. If this inter-Greek council of Presidents are all there and verbally confirm their participation in the cult, the Gods will be able to punish them as well as whoever the ringleader in all of this is."

"And so will I."

The thought of Cami's involvement enrages me. She lured Vivian in with the help of those Sirens, and she is partially responsible for Avery's death. All of them are, and they deserve to be punished.

"No you will not. You will allow nature to take its course and trust that we can make sure they get what is coming to them."

My need for vengeance is overwhelming but warranted. My entire life has been turned upside down, for what? Murder.

The car ride only takes an hour longer, but Hades doesn't take me to school but to an apartment in town. When I say apartment though, I mean a big ass loft.

"Is this yours?" My jaw is unhinged.

"No." He replies. "Dionysus got it on something called Airbnb I believe it was."

I giggle at the way Airbnb sounds foreign in his tongue, and continue to take the place in. It's massive, and beautiful. I didn't even know this town had places like this. The living room has giant glass windows that overlook the entire town, a fireplace, and big leather couches that look extremely comfortable and inviting. So much so, I ditch my case and go sit in one, immediately sinking in to it's scent. The smell of leather is intoxicating; definitely one of my favorites. It kind of reminds me of Hades.
