Chapter Thirty Seven

"Hades, she's in trouble!" I exclaim.

"You heard snippets of a conversation that were all pertaining to New Years," Hades argue. "I mean it is good that we now know when everything will happen but there is nothing we can do right now."

"We can remove her from harm's way!"

"And how exactly do you think that would play out? Show up at the sorority house, kidnap her? She'd hate you ten times more."

We're fighting again. I didn't want to, but when it comes to Vivian I will not just hand idle.

"Aza Grace, you are upset." Dio chimes in. "You are talking irrationally."

"Of course I am upset!" I shout. "My best friend could die, I could die. There are fucking murderers on the loose!"

"Think about what you just said." Hades' tone softens. "You could die, she could die... you are scared. But we can't let fear dictate our actions. We have to be careful."

I sigh. He's right. I know he's right. But I am tired of living in fear.

"Can I get you a drink?" Dio asks.

"No." Hades and I both say at the same time.

"Okay I'm going to just..." He backs away, then goes upstairs leaving Hades and I alone.

"Are you ever going to stop being mad at me?" Hades asks.

"I'm not mad." I defend myself.

"You are."

I'm not mad, I don't know what I am. Running the risk of sounding dramatic, I'd say I don't know anything anymore. Hades comes closer to me. His body language seems more open to me, he's warmer towards me.

"Can I kiss you?" He asks, taking me by surprise.

I want to say no. I should say no. He doesn't deserve to kiss me. I don't know how he feels about me, and that bothers me.

But I don't say no. I nod.

I let him grab me by the waist and lightly tug me to him.

I let him raise my chin so I am looking at him.

He knows.

He knows the power he holds on me, that I melt in his arms, his touch.

"I hate when you are upset." He whispers. "It seems like these days all you are is upset."

"I know."

My breath is caught in my chest.

"I am going to kiss you now." He tells me and I nod again.

When his lips touch mine, like they usually do, they make everything fall away. All I focus on is how his kiss makes me feel as if I am floating. It feels like I am out of my body.

"Please don't stop kissing me." I say into his lips. "I don't care how you feel about me. Just never stop kissing me."

Hades doesn't answer, just kisses my forehead and pulls me into a hug.

I sigh into his scent. He smells like safety, despite the fact that my feelings for him are a risk on their own.

"I am sorry you got wrapped in this Agapiménos." He says. "You don't deserve this."

"I deserve you." I say honestly. "You, the man I love."

"Aza Grace," Hades sighs.

"I don't need you to love me back." I say, making the decision for myself. "All I need is you to care, and you do. That's enough."
