Chapter Thirty Eight

Eros does show up for a split moment on the DJ booth, forcing Hades to leave my side to chase after him. But the rest of the night is, as expected, uneventful. There are no cult meet ups, no Twin run-ins, no prayers... Just regular ol' partying.

We return to the AirBnB close to 5 a.m. and I am just about ready to pass out. We waiting until everyone left, although Hades still stayed behind in order to do a walk around of the forest. He's concerned they wanted to wait us out, but I disagree.

I think Eros is getting cocky.

He wants us there.

"You okay?" Dio asks, taking off his cap, letting his curls fall out. His hair has gotten longer since I first met him, it suits him.

"Actually, yes." I answer, actually feeling truthful while I do so.

"Good." Dio squeezes my hand.

Something tells me that he isn't though.

"You?"

He doesn't say anything, giving me my answer. I take off the glow stick necklaces that somehow ended up on my neck, and sit down on the couch, patting the spot next to me as an invitation for him to join me. I may be tired, but this takes precedence.

"What's wrong?"

"I am worried." he answers this time.

"About?"

"You."

I sign, of course he is.

"Dio I-"

"No." He stops me. What is it with men and interrupting me when I speak? "I'm going to talk now and you are going to listen. You are not going to interrupt or argue or interject. Just listen."

"Oka-"

"UH! No talking." He cuts me off again. "You have gotten yourself mixed up in what is probably going to be the biggest Gods showdown since the Titanchomy. You are in love with someone who may never be able to love you back. You are clearly in so much pain. Now we know, you are going to die. And there is nothing I can do about any of it. So yeah, I am worried about you. You are the first person I have genuinely cared about in decades. I don't want to lose you."

"You are not going to lose me." I tell him.

"The fates are never wrong."

"Fuck the fates." I scoff. "I decide my own fate."

"I love you." Dio laughs.

"Do you?' I raise an eyebrow, remembering his confession to Hades. I wasn't sure what love he meant then.

"Like a sister Aza-licious." Dio assures me. "I know you have only eyes for one man."

"I do." I smile.

"This just all sucks doesn't it." He sighs.

"That it does indeed." I yawn.

"Oh shit, you need to go to sleep. I am sorry for bring this all up now." Dio remembers again that I am not human.

My bed feels like heaven when I finally get into it. I can't help but think about the last time I was in here. The way Hades touched me... The way he feels...

I would be hurt that Hades isn't here, if I didn't already accept that this is just the nature of our relationship. I give him everything, but can't expect anything in return.
