Chapter Thirty Nine

I wake up the next morning extremely anxious. It's December 31st. Happy New Year's eve, I suppose.

When I start mustering the strength to get up, I notice the body laying beside me. I know Hades and I didn't do anything last night, but it was nice to just sleep beside him. He seems to be asleep, and shirtless.

The skin on his back smooth and looks so soft, inviting me to run my hand up and down his back.

"I feel you staring." Hades says into the pillow. I guess he's not asleep.

I sit up, bringing my chest to my knees, avoiding the desire to kiss his shoulder blades. He rolls over to face me, and I can't hold in the gasp. It's as if every time I see his face, I have forgotten how good looking he is. He trimmed his beard last night and shaved the sides of his head framing his cheek bones.

"Good morning." I say, break still a little raspy.

"We should probably get going, and pack your outfit for tonight as well. We won't be coming back here." He tells me, getting up and putting his shirt back on.

Shame, it was a good view.

"Why aren't we coming back?" I ask.

"Today is a big day." Hades uses similar words to the ones I overheard from Vivian's buttdial the other night, then leaves me to get ready.

My hands are extremely shaky as I pull my leggings on. Not from fear I don't think. I am nervous. There are still so many things I feel I need to know before all of this goes down.

I know that Hecate told me the previous cult leader roped his followers in with the promises of freedom, wealth, and power. Perhaps that is a similar promise Eros has given to the cult members now. But what does Eros get out of all of this?

And why did the Sirens lure Vivian away from me? What was the purpose?

"Aza Grace!" There is a knock on the door, only two minutes later.

"Just a second!" I shout back, pulling on my shirt before opening the door for him.

"I wanted to talk to you about something." Hades pushes his hair behind his ears. His personality has switched completely from the Hades who was cold and told me what to do, to a more uncomfortable and unsure Hades.

"Okay, I am just getting ready, like you told me to." I move back to gather my things, not sure why he is back so quickly or acting this way. He'll have to talk as I get ready. Hopefully he won't notice how shaky I am.

"Well I..." The God seems to be at a loss for words.

I would engage but I need to pack my dress and shoes, my makeup... I need to get ready.

"I wanted to talk to you about last night." He finally gets what to say back. "We got... well we were interrupted."

I try not to focus on the emotion behind the conversation we are having and brush my hair. I don't know why the sudden change in personality and need to talk about this. But I suppose there really is no good timing for anything.

"We were."

"And uh..."

I stop stuffing my bag for a moment to look at him. He seems awkward and uncomfortable but I am not going to make this easier for him.

"Yes?" I raise my eyebrows at him expectantly.

"Well a lot of things were said..." He trails off.
