Chapter Forty

The music is thumping and there are people dressed up as Gods and Goddesses everywhere. The whole thing is humorous for me, I can only imagine what Hades and Dio think of it. Now that I know what real Gods and Goddesses look like, more normal less all this costume facades, yet I dressed up just like everyone else despite this knowledge. The addition of the 2019 sunglasses is even funnier. Hades looks extremely out of place, in his dark jeans and V-neck. But Dio fits right in, wearing a white sheet tied around his waist with a rope and laurels on his head. First bare chest of the night.

I am trying to keep my calm, but it is too difficult. My mind keeps jumping from bad to worse case scenario. What if this whole thing is a "drink the kool aid" situation? I don't think my heart can handle any more death.

"Are we splitting up again?" Dio asks Hades. We never did get the chance to discuss the game plan for tonight. Probably because none of us know what to expect.

"No, you stay with Aza Grace." Hades answers. "Don't let her out of your sight. I will be in the forest."

"Doing what?" I question.

"That'll be hard to do." Dio tells Hades. "Our girl is looking like a real Goddess tonight."

Hades rolls his eyes, and just leaves without saying what he is going to do. His patience for Dio is extremely low.

"Why don't we go socialize?" Dio loops his arm around mine, casually. "And you should drop this jacket off at the house. You look too good to cover up."

I would argue but Dio doesn't seem like he'll let that slide. Kappa Sig's house is empty, everyone at the party, so we just ditch my coat by the stairwell. He'll get it back to me later, he promises.

"We'll just get you a shot or two to warm you up." We rejoin the party.

"I don't think that's a good idea." I disagree. "I should probably keep my wits about me tonight."

Dio's friends, or brothers rather, are all around the alcohol table as usual.

"Hey man!" He greets all of them with the classic bro hug, while I awkwardly stand there.

"Who is this?" One of them asks, using his beer to motion at me.

"Do you all know Aza Grace? I feel like I've introduced you guys to her before."

"You look different tonight." Noah appears out of the group.

I suppose I might. I slept with my hair in braids so that it would get wavy, and I'm wearing make up tonight. My curls have gotten longer over the past semester so it is usually up but I let it down tonight. It's well below my boobs at this point. Sometimes it feels odd when it moves against my back, a normally foreign feeling to me.

"Good different?" I smile at him.

I have no idea what he thinks happened yesterday but I can still be nice.

"Got any pretty friends?" A boy winks at me.

"Stop acting like you have never spoken to a girl before." Another familiar face emerges.

Find your friends and run.

"Hi Cal," I immediately get all awkward. I'm not sure how to act around him anymore.

"Hello Aza Grace, how have you been?" He reacts politely, but I can tell it's not genuine. He probably thinks I am crazy. I don't blame him, if I were in his position I would think I am crazy too.
