mike wheeler had always been a quiet person, he only did speak to his friends, and when he was asked to talk, if he had the choice, he'd never talk.

then there was y/n l/n. a very loud person, she often just spoke her mind out loud. and she loved it, she hated staying quiet she felt weak when she did.

mike never did understand y/n. he thought she was loud and obnoxious. he thought that y/n and him had completely different minds. he thought that she and him could not possibly have one thing in common, nothing at all.

y/n walked into school, late. she ran to the main office, expecting a pass to her first period class.

"you're late." the women at the front ask spat.

"yeah-yeah, i'm sorry." y/n apologized.

"what's your name?"

"y/n l/n."

"we didn't get a call, you weren't excused, why are you late?"

y/n slight rolled her eyes. "ma'am i'm sorry okay. i was just running a bit late, can i just please get a pass? i've never been late before,"

the women then laughed a bit which made y/n groan.

"what's so funny?"

"dear, everybody's been late."

"yeah, well not me. please i'm telling you,"

"okay-okay. i'll leave you with a warning, but next time you're late and you're not excused, it's instantly detention for you missy, do you understand?"

"yes-yes i understand." y/n groaned as she harshly grabbed the pass from the cranky women.

y/n walked away and rolled her eyes. "fucking bitch."

y/n walked around the empty halls of the shitty school. she finally made it to her first period class and walked in.

"l/n, you're late," the teacher looked up at her.

"so i've been told." y/n said and handed her the pass.

as y/n walked to the back she noticed some stares coming from mike wheeler. "what?" she mouthed to him. the boy then looked away.

"alright, so this project will be done in pairs. but, i will choose who you'll work with, you will have time to work on it this whole week in class, but there is obviously not enough time so you and your partner will have to figure something out, on how you'll work on it outside of school." the teacher claimed. "anyways first we have will and dustin, max and lucas, mike and... y/n,"

she continued to say pairs but obviously mike didn't care, he turned around and looked at y/n. he took a deep breath, how in the world was he going to work on a project with her? would he even survive?

y/n caught mike staring at her, again. she looked at him and slightly smiled at the boy.

as the day was nearly over, mike couldn't stop thinking about y/n. he was stressing about it all day. what would he even say? would she even help? how is he going to communicate with someone who is completely different than him? as he closed his locker, y/n stood there.

"shit!" mike whispered.

"hello wheeler." she grinned at him.

"hey y/n. how can i-i help you?"

y/n chuckled at the boy. "why are you being so awkward and weird."

"w-what? i'm not being awkward, or weird."

"you kinda are."

"okay-whatever. what do you need?"

"i was going to ask you about the project, do you want to meet up after school? you could come over at my place if you want."

"oh right. yeah that's cool."

"great. okay i'll see you later then, bye wheeler!" she yelled as she walked away from the boy.

"bye, wait! where do you live?!" he raised his voice at the girl.

"ask lucas!" she screamed back and then left the boys sight.

"jesus christ-so fucking helpful."

it was currently four o'clock, y/n had cleaned her room a bit. she barley had people over but when she did, she didn't want them to think that she's a messy person.

y/n had also asked her mother if it was alright for mike to come over, she said it was fine, and obviously she headed straight to the grocery store to get snacks.

as she gathered her books and put them on her desk the doorbell rang. she ran down the stairs and opened the door. and there stood mike.

"hello wheeler, nice to see you again," y/n smiled.

"hey y/n." mike simply responded.

"well come in."

"thanks." he said as he walked into the house. he looked around and was quite surprised, it was a fancy house. he didn't expect that she'd live in a place like this.

"yeah i know, surprising, huh?"

"what? no-no, i..."

"relax, i'm playing with you, come on softie, let's go upstairs."

mike looked at her with a confused expression. he was confused as to why she just called him softie.

"softie? what does that mean?" he followed the girl up the stairs.

"relax, it's just a nickname. it means nothing, don't take it too serious."

"oh, okay? so what? can i call you big-mouth?"

y/n stopped and glared at him. she had this look on her face that almost frightened the boy, that was until she began to laugh.

"oh jesus, that's funny, yeah big-mouth, i like it."

mike then grinned at her and began to laugh, maybe y/n wasn't such a bad person after all.
