A breeze whirled around Seraphina as she sat under one of the looming trees that were planted on the property, a book in her hand.

"Why aren't you with Stefan?" A voice questioned, making her look up from the book, seeing her eldest brother dressed in a gray uniform.

"Damon!" Seraphina squealed, dropping the book and launching herself into his arms. He returned the hug, picking up the petite girl as he did.

"Why aren't you with Stefan?" He repeated, making her groan as he set her down back on her feet.

"I was just reading," She informed, looking up at her brother. "I also didn't want to follow Stefan and Katherine around." She rolled her eyes at the sound of her name.

"You keep rolling your eyes and they're going to end up on the ground," Damon teased, poking her nose. "Let's go find our brother, shall we?"

--

"Look who I happened to stumble upon while reading," Seraphina sang as she and Damon walked to where Stefan and Katherine were at.

"They extended your leave?" Stefan questioned as he saw his brother.

"I was simply having too much fun to return to battle," Damon replied with a grin, making Stefan smile as he stepped closer to the two.

"Your commitment to the Confederacy is inspiring!" Stefan exclaimed as he pulled Damon into a hug.

"Well, this works out wonderfully for me," Katherine purred, sauntering over to the two brothers, ignoring the look she got from the youngest Salvatore.

"How's that, Miss Katherine?" Damon inquired.

"Now I'll have both of you here to keep me entertained," Katherine informed. "First and foremost; I'll need someone to escort me to the Founder's Ball," Katherine announced, making Seraphina immediately block out as her brothers both fumbled over each other as she made her way back to the house.

--

"You two are idiotic, completely crazy! As if she would do this for you!" Seraphina yelled as she followed closely behind her brother's as they ran through the woods.

"Seraphina!" Stefan boomed, stopping and whirling around, his jaw clenched as he looked at his young sister. "Go be a child somewhere else."

"I'm only younger by a year!" She sneered. "You two are being insane! She's a vampire, nothing good comes from them, just like father says."

"Phina," Damon said softly, making Seraphina turn to him. "Please, go home. I don't want you to get hurt." Damon and Stefan left her standing there, walking closer to the tree-line.

"Circle around that way; I'll distract them," Stefan explained to Damon, making Damon rush off to where he was supposed to be.

"Stay there," Stefan whispered harshly, making her nostrils flare slightly as she listened to him.

"Over here!" Stefan yelled as he rushed onto the dirt path. "There's another one! Quick, help me!" Stefan cried as he led the men who were guarding the wagon full of vampires to a false claim. Seraphina made her way closer to the tree-line as Damon rushed to the wagon, opening it.

A gunshot echoed through the night as Seraphina watched Damon crumple to the ground. A scream escaped her as she rushed out of the woods, going directly to her brother. She fell to her knees, a cough leaving Damon.

"Damon," Seraphina whined as she raised his head so it could be in her lap, her eyes watering as she watched his breathing becoming shallow. "Please don't – "Another gunshot echoed through the night, making her look up, seeing Stefan falling to the ground.

"No!" She cried, placing Damon's head down gently. She began to run to Stefan, only for someone's arms to wrap around her. She began to writhe in the person's arms, hoping to make them release her.

"Giuseppe, what shall we do with her?" A deep voice questioned, making her look to see her father.

"Father, please, don't kill me," She cried.

"Take her south," Giuseppe spoke. "I don't want her to succumb to the vampires."

"Father! No! Please don't make me leave!"

"Take her away."

--

Seraphina stumbled through the city of New Orleans, still in the dress she wore days ago, her hair disheveled and out of the chignon. She knew that she looked like death, her eyes were most likely puffy from crying, dark circles under them as well.

"Miss," A soft, accented voice spoke, making her turn to see a male. Her deminer changed, her fists balling, ready to fight the man. "Are you alright?"

"What do you want?" She snapped, making the male step back. "I know how to defend myself—"

"I'm not going to hurt you," He spoke softly, hoping to calm her down. "You look hungry," He added in, making her look at him. "Would you like to come with me so you can get food?"

"I don't even know your name," Seraphina mentioned, straightening her posture so she will seem more confident.

"I'm Elijah Mikaelson," He introduced himself, making her nod slightly. "And you are?"

"Seraphina Salvatore," She coughed, making him nod.

"Now, would you like to join me for lunch?" He questioned, a hesitant smile on his face.

"It's that late?" She questioned in disbelief, looking at the sky. "I've been walking for what it seems all night –" She stopped herself, not wanting to bother the man with her family problems.

"Let me get you to my home."

--

"Elijah, I believe the governor is trying to – Who is this?" Klaus questioned as Elijah practically carried the half-asleep Seraphina.

"Shh," Elijah spoke softly, looking at the brunette. "She needs a place to stay." He picked her up bridal style, a soft groan leaving her lips as she rested her head against his chest. He walked up the steps, Klaus following close behind him.

"So, we're taking in the homeless now?" Klaus questioned sarcastically.

"Something happened to her," Elijah began as he laid her down on one of the beds. "When I came upon her, she was ready to attack me. She's a fiery one."

"What's her name?"

"Seraphina, I think she'll fit in with this family."
