Riley's pov

~

After school, I decided to visit Maya at Lucas's house.

I had expected a teary eyed Maya, refusing to tell anything to Lucas. What I did not expect was my best friend and the guy I liked making out on the couch.

The door was unlocked, so I hadn't bothered knocking which was probably a bad thing.

Maya and Lucas's eyes both darted to the door, to where I was standing, completely shocked.

"What the-"

Maya stood up and released Lucas.

"Riley I'm so sorry I-"

I didn't let her finish. Rage boiled inside me. She knew I liked him. And she kissed him.

"I can't believe you." I said angrily.

She shook her head.

"No Riley you don't understand-"

"You're right. I DON'T understand."

"Let me explain-"

"No. There is nothing to explain."

I ran out and slammed the door, not even acknowledging Lucas.

When I got home I went in my room right away. I was so mad at Maya and at Lucas.

Maya because she knew I liked him, she knew how badly I wanted to go out with him.

And Lucas because of his stupid accent and his charisma. All those times he told me I was special, when he held my hand to comfort me, it had been a lie. He didn't like me, he liked Maya. I felt so betrayed. So stupid to believe a guy like Lucas would ever date a girl like me.

I looked at the picture of me and Maya on my nightstand. We had been friends forever, always telling each other everything, having sleepovers and hanging out. Was I about to let a boy get in between us?

I took a deep breath as I came to my senses. I was being selfish. I was mad that she kissed Lucas, but I had to put that behind me. Maya needed a friend, and I wanted to be there for her. I ran out of my room and left before I even got a chance to hi to my parents.
