Lucas's pov

~

I was heading to the exit of the school when I heard Maya's shouting voice.

"Riley leave this alone!"

"I don't want to!"

I heading towards the shouting voices. I turned a corner and Maya and Riley came into view.

"Riley why do you have to get involved in everything?!" Said Maya angrily.

"I care about you."

"We'll stop caring."

She tried to walk away but Riley grabbed her arm.

"Maya stop." She said. "What's going on? Is it your parents?"

Maya flinched at the mention of her parents. She glared at her and yanked her arm out of Riley's grip.

"It's none of your business."

"Actually it is."

"No it isn't."

"Maya just tell me." Riley begged.

"Riley..." Maya's voice chocked. "I...I gotta go."

She left, leaving Riley alone.

"Hey...um are you okay? Sorry I kinda overheard." I said.

Riley spun around.

"Oh hey," she said. "No, it's fine."

She went and sat down on the bench. I went and sat next to her.

"Is she okay?" I asked.

Riley looked down and shook her head.

"I don't know...I don't think so. She won't talk to me."

"Maybe she needs time." I suggested.

She shrugged. "I just wish she should talk to me."

I moved my hand and it brushed against her side. She looked up at me with her brown eyes. I looked back.

"She will." I said. I grabbed her hand and held it tight. "When she's ready she will come to you. For now, hang in there."

I let go of her hand and got up. As I left I realized how beautiful she was. I'm not talking about how "hot" she was or how "pretty". She was beautiful. She was beautiful because she didn't know it.
