Riley's pov
~
I held her hand as I spoke to her.
"Come back. Please come back."
Her face remained the same. She didn't move at all. She looked like Snow White in the glass coffin.
"Please. I need you...I-" my voice shook. Seeing her like this, so pale and lifeless...it was too much for me.
I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
"Please." I whispered.
A doctor came in the room and kindly asked me to leave.
"She needs to rest, you've been talking to her for nearly an hour."
I shook my head trying to insist that I should stay, but no words came out.
The doctor continued.
"I spoke to your parents. They'll explain everything to you."
I nodded, too tired to argue. As the doctor led me to my parents, I looked at her, hoping that the next time I see her, she'll be talking.

"Mom. Dad."
I sat down next to them.
"What happened to her?" I asked quietly, not sure I wanted to hear the answer.
My father sighed.
"She hadn't really eaten in a while. The lack of food caused her to faint, and some people found her in Central Park, unconscious."
I felt the tears coming again. She hadn't eaten. She told me her mother was feeding her proper meals every day.
"Why isn't she waking up?" I said, my voice shaky.
My mother looked at my father.
"We don't know. The doctors don't know either." She replied, almost too quickly.
My father looked at her and back to the floor. They weren't telling me everything. There was something else.
"What? Tell me."
They looked at each other again.
"The doctors...they think that, um, that Maya isn't waking up because she doesn't want to wake up." Said my father.
What does he mean?
"What?"
"Her subconscious is taking over right now. She in a dream state. The only difference is that she isn't waking up. The doctors don't really know why, but their hypothesis is that deep down she doesn't want to walk up. And her subconscious picked up on that feeling, and isn't allowing her to wake up."
His words hit my like a punch in the stomach. I felt like the wind was knocked out of me. Maya...
I leaned my head against my father's shoulder and began to cry. He wrapped his arms around me and didn't let go.
