Lucas's pov

~

Of course my cousins are all older than me, so they made me answer the door. I groaned and went to answer it.

I was shocked when there was nobody there. And I was even more shocked to find a present there, on my doorstep. I picked it up and brought it inside.

"Oo what's that?" Asked my cousin.

"I don't know."

"Look for a card"

"No look for a tag"

"Johnny shut up he knows what to do."

"Why don't you shut up you dumbass."

"What did you just call me?"

"Boys enough!" Said my uncle. They both stopped talking instantly.

I found a tag on it that read:

"To Lucas"

I opened it. It was a blue cowboy hat. Engraved on the front was the sentence "Cowboy at heart"

I didn't need to read the card to know who it was from.

Dear Lucas,

Howdy, Ranger Rick! How's ya horse? Hope you and your horse are doing well. Yeee-HAAWWW!

I know you've been worried. You tend to worry a lot. Just like Riley. Don't worry, I explained everything in Riley's letter. This letter is just going to be me wishing you and your cowboys a merry Christmas!

I wonder how Christmas is in the ol' west. Do you decorate your horses like reindeers and the cacti like Santa? Do you wear cowboy hats instead of Santa hats? If you do, I expect you to wear this. It's nice don't you think? You won't find any other like it. You really are a "cowboy at heart".

I hope you have a great Christmas :-)

Love Maya

P.s I saw you in your pajamas. Loving the cowboy onesie.

I smiled and looked down at my PJs. It wasn't a cowboy onesie, but Maya tends to exaggerate. There was a cowboy on my shirt though. It said "cowboy at heart."

What a strange world we live in. It's full of surprises, one of them being the pleasure that is Maya hart.

I pulled out the cowboy hat and put it on.

"Howdy y'all. Let's eat us some cake!"

I could've sworn I heard Maya's laugh echo through my head, telling me to start speaking American.
