Lucas's pov

~

Days passed by and while I seemed to be getting closer to Riley, Maya seemed to be pulling away. Farkle even grew on me. Maya and I never really spoke much, expect in the hallway when she used to say : "hey cowboy." Now she doesn't even do that.

I kinda of missed the way she would make fun if my Texas roots or how she used to laugh every time I mispronounced something. A spent a week with the fun outgoing Maya before she began to pull away. And Riley said that even that week there had been something different about her.

I hadn't known her that well then, and I still don't know her that well now, but you don't need to be close to someone to know if something's wrong. And something was clearly wrong.

I wanted to help, but I didn't know how. It's been a month since the first day of school. Farkle, Riley and I were the Brew, a popular coffee shop that had become out regular hangout.

"I'm worried. I can't sleep. I'm always thinking about her." Said Farkle.

Riley looked at her shoes. "Me too" she said quietly.

I looked at both of them. They had both known Maya for so long, I could understand why they were so worried. Hell, I was worried. And I've only known her for a month.

"There must be something we can do." I said.

Riley looked defeated. That determined look in her eyes had disappeared, replaced by worry.

"I've tried everything. She won't talk. I don't understand, she use to tell me everything..."

I reached for her hand and she let me take it.

"Don't worry." I smiled and she smiled back.

Farkle laughed.

"I'm such a third wheel right now."

Riley giggled, and I laughed a bit also. Then something caught my eye and whipped the smile write off my face. Or should I say someone.

Maya was walking by. I saw her through the window. She was shivering, and I didn't know why, since it wasn't that cold outside.

"Guys. Maya's there." I pointed at Maya.

Farkle and Riley both looked in the direction I was pointing.

Then Maya turned and she faced us. Riley gasped.

"Oh my god" she whispered.

She had a huge black eye and a large red gash on her cheek.
