Riley's pov

~

My parents went to the cops and cleared everything up. We took some tests to prove we hadn't been on drugs. We were off the hook from the police, but not from my parents.

When we got home, the yelling began. But it wasn't directed towards me. It was directed toward Maya.

"I am fed up of you always getting my daughter in trouble!" Shouted my father. "You are a bad influence on her, and I've had it. I used to let it slide before when they were little things, but now, I see you moved onto bigger and more dangerous things. You brought my daughter to a 9th grade party with DRUGS and ALCOHOL. Maya I'm serious, I've had it. I don't want you near my daughter anymore."

Maya didn't answer. She just looked at my parents, talking every word like a punch in the stomach.

"No dad it wasn't her-"

He turned towards me.

"Stop covering for her. You always do that. It's time for you to stop. And you aren't of the hook either. Maya can go to dangerous parties, she can do whatever she wants, but YOU cannot. You shouldn't let Maya convince you to do things you don't want to do."

This was all my fault. Maya was getting in trouble because of me. I should have listened to her.

"Dad please...it wasn't Maya's idea! I convinced her to go to the party."

"Why should I believe you? You always lie for her."

I sighed.

"You don't understand-"

"It's okay Riley. You don't need to protect me." Said Maya. "Mr and Mrs Matthews, I get that you're angry with me, so if you want, I'll stay away from Riley."

"Maya what are you d-

"Yes. That's what we want." Said my father interrupting me.

"Then that's what I'll do." Maya headed towards the door. "I'll stay away from Riley."

She walked out and closed the door.
