One second I was walking toward the police officer to answer questions, the next I was on the floor.

Everything else was a blur. I heard voices, but couldn't see anything but dark shapes. I heard the pounding of my heart echo through my skull. I was alone, left to listen to my own thoughts pound their way through my mind.

Was I dead? Was this what it was like to be in heaven? Or hell? Or neither?

I felt like I was floating in a sea of voices, some familiar, some not.

But I knew one thing. It was his voice that pulled my back into consciousness.

"You scared me." He whispered. His eyes were bloodshot and his fist was swollen.

"What happen to your hand?" I asked, concerned.

He chuckled.

"Look at you. You're the one in the hospital and you're worried about my hand?"

I punched him in the arm playfully.

"What happened?" I laughed.

"I kinda punched your dickhead of a dad." He said and grinned.

And I I couldn't be happier that my father got beaten up by a cowboy. My cowboy.
