You hadn't come out of your room since the wise leader of the Companions had passed. Not even for food.

It had been 6 days. In a few hours, a full week since he'd seen your face.

Seconds after the funeral and ceremony had ended for Kodlak Whitemane, you'd disappeared into Jorrvaskr, Tilma, the maid, warning Vilkas to keep his distance and let you settle yourself.

He did. He respected you, you were both stronger and smarter than him. If he wanted to be a brat, he'd have slammed your door down and demanded you stop hiding away.

But a week? A full week of knowing you were just in that tiny room, alone, and he couldn't even try to talk to you?

He was getting impatient, and even Farkas, his twin brother, had noticed. He couldn't even bring himself to drown in a drink like he did whenever you were gone, truly, he just wasn't functioning correctly. Vilkas couldn't keep himself in check, being temperamental and all- you always were there to flick his ear scoldingly, glare, lecture, and calm him down.

As bothersome as it got sometimes, he bitterly missed it. His wolf was on edge, he couldn't sleep, and he couldn't focus. Not with you starving in your room.

Sure, whatever Tilma set outside your door, you ate, but it wasn't enough.

When you first came to the group of warriors, you had problems. You were severely malnourished, injured, and mentally shot. The Nord refused to think about what would happen if you were going through some sort of relapse because there was no way in hell he could see you go through that ever again.

He groaned, a low, throaty sound, and flipped around in his bed.

Only minutes later, the muscular dark-haired man had given up on sleep and begrudgingly got up, haphazardly throwing on a light tunic and glaring at the still-burning candles near him.

His wolf stirred, clawing at the back of his mind.

Vilkas muttered a curse, that was, until a noise disrupted the turmoil.

A quiet, excited exclaim came from the room beside his. Then, there was the muffled opening of a door, a shuffle of footsteps, and three precise knocks on his door.

Seriously?

He let out a rumble of annoyance.

"Vilkas?" came the soft question, a voice that sent his blood pumping despite his worry and anger. He opened his door without thought, engulfing your small, familiar frame in a tight embrace like he hadn't seen you for weeks.

He felt so much better within mere seconds.

A giggle left your mouth, and then you lightly tapped him off, gracefully entering his room and taking a seat on his bed with multiple papers in hand.

He didn't appreciate the action but walked in front of you nonetheless, dark eyes flickering with a multitude of emotions you couldn't decipher.

Vilkas scowled. "Why'd you lock yourself up, ____? I was getting irritated, you know."

"I found the restorative. I piled up all the books Kodlak had and read every single one of them until I formulated a few possible ways to cure you, and I think I can do it," you said, voice steady and determined.

"Really? You..."

"I did. I-I, uh, didn't get much sleep, but I got it done."

Your eyes were red, as they got when you needed some proper rest, and you looked pale. Vilkas took the paper from your hands, set it on a nightstand, and then went to shut the door.

He pinched a few candles out, and then threw off his tunic.

"Lucky for you, I also slept for shit. Move over," he muttered.

You blinked, then laid on the bed before rolling to the side. The man easily slid under the covers beside you, neatly tucking you in his arms.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you," was your withdrawn murmur.

He sighed. "Not much we can do 'bout it now. Just don't go doing it again, understand?"

You relaxed, letting out a quiet sigh as your body almost melted into his. "Promise," was the sleepy whisper.

He rested his chin on your head, and you fell asleep soon after.

Truthfully, he was just glad you were back in his arms, safe and sound.

Releasing a long breath, Vilkas closed his eyes, relishing the coolness of your skin as your breathing lulled him to sleep.

Gladly, he let the darkness take him.
