You rested your head onto his leather-clad shoulder, eyes flickering shut as you leaned against him. A soft chuckle left his lips and Ancano glanced at you, a soft grin on his lips, before turning back to his book. The Arcanaeum was occupied by only the two of you, a stray apprentice, and then the keeper of the impressive library who was engrossed in fixing a book that had started to fall apart due to age.
"You're tired," the high elf hummed, eyes still gazing along the words of the pages. You yawned quietly, nodding.
"Usually," you frowned, "I'm not this tired already, but I guess it's just something to be expected now."
He closed his book, setting it on the table to be looked at tomorrow as you raised your head off of his shoulder as he stood to his full height. He held out a hand, which you took gently, and you were soon standing as well. A funny thing, almost, how smaller you were to him. Despite your race, you would be significantly shorter than him, no matter what. Your head could almost reach his shoulder, but no further. Even with heeled shoes, you wouldn't get even near his height.
Ancano frankly didn't care- he was tall even for an Altmer male, and by the gods, if Atlmer males weren't the tallest people in existence, surpassing even Nords. One time, you and Ancano had shared a cheeky joke of wondering how tall the snow elves would be- if they would be outlandishly short, around the height of dark elf, or taller than even high elves like Ancano.
He wrapped an arm loosely around the very top of your abdomen, being mindful of your swollen stomach as he did so. Somehow, he managed it without having to bend down or walk awkwardly.
When you reached the stairs, his arm fell back to your hand and intertwined tightly, no doubt hyperaware of any motion that indicated you were going to trip or fall. As you reached the main entrance, you passed by Onmund, whom Ancano snarled at from getting a hair's width too close for his liking and hissed out a sharp warning.
You gave Ancano a glare while the poor man scuttered off. "That wasn't necessary," you grumbled. He scowled.
"Well, I didn't like the way he was looking at you," he defended.
"He was waving at me, Ancano. That is something called a greeting and has no romantic value at all. He was being friendly," you stated, lips forming a frown as you looked up to him.
Ancano's face visibly hardened, his jaw tightening and his eyes not exactly meeting yours before he spoke in a mutter. "I don't care. You're with child, anyone is a threat. I'm not arguing with you on this, ____. You need to rest."
His arms came around you moments later, no doubt his attempt to try to calm you down. "Please," he murmured quietly, "don't fight me on this."
You bit your lip, looking more to the floor than to him, before nodding, seeming almost embarrassed for trying to get him to be nice for once. He noticed it and tilted your head up, planting a soft kiss to your lips.
"I'm an egotistical, protective, controlling, obsessive man, and I can't change it. You've managed to deal with me for years, my little one. You know I didn't mean to upset you, and I know I did anyway," he stated quietly. "I'm sorry to have agitated you."
You abruptly scowled, that innocent and rule-abiding woman washing away. "You're pretty awful sometimes, Can."
"And you've resorted to calling me an inanimate object once more," he muttered. "I'm not that wretched."
"Oh, shut up. I'm sure you're just a can of everything nice, then, too. I mean, I'm sure everyone in the college would agree, you're just the kindest, most loving, most comforting man around, aren't you?"
Your sarcasm was at an all-time peak as you lightly pushed him away and crossed your arms, eyes glaring to his sharply while his lips formed a thin line and he looked to anywhere but you. He wasn't angry, not exactly, no. He was more so just taking massive hits to his ego.
Every now and then, this little tumble would happen and for once, you would be on the offensive and Ancano would just be getting destroyed by words. It didn't affect him too much, but enough to consider being less territorial, which never lasted long.
"Really, Ancano, you've just upset a pregnant woman. I can't believe you."
"That was cheap," he winced.
"You should hear the things I wanted to say. Come on, you tree, I want to sleep," you huffed, gripping his wrist and tugging him closer to the door which led to the outside. He followed, getting close enough to where you didn't have to keep a hold of his wrist.
As the Skyrim moons began to show, both of you ambled your way to the college dorms, settling down for some much-needed rest. You, being the much more eager party to get some sleep, slipped into the double bed first and nuzzled into the pillows, which would soon be replaced by Ancano if he only hurried up.
Not too many minutes later, he moved the quilts and went in under them beside you. He laid a light, warm hand to the side of your abdomen, his chest against your back.
"I love you," he murmured.
"Yeah, I know," you sighed quietly.
"Forgive me?"
"You'll do it tomorrow."
"I know."
"Fine," you muttered.
"I'll fight a dragon for you."
"No, you wouldn't."
"I would run from a dragon with you."
"That's better," you chuckled. He snorted, shaking his head.
