He scowled.

The last thing he remembered was being slain by the Dragonborn, and now, he sat in the middle of Whiterun on a bench, not knowing what to do.

Alduin did not like being a human. A joor. No, he despised it.

And yet, some twisted part of him was enjoying it, the feeling of being on the same level as the Dragonborn, and he burned the thoughts with a wave of raging anger.

He, the first-born of Akatosh, would not succumb to the Dragonborn's wiles.

He just had to wait for the dammed Dragonborn to show up- to explain what exactly they'd done to him.

Due to a few minutes of eavesdropping sometime earlier in the day, Alduin had heard some gossip between two market-runners and found that his target would be in Whiterun tomorrow.

Problem was, he didn't know what day it was. Or, really, the approximate time. Time was his greatest weakness, after all.

Most certainly now.

All he knew was that it was night and he felt, well, he didn't know how he felt. How would a mortal describe this feeling? Fat? No, no, that was not right.

Fatigued. That's was it was, the feeling of drowsiness.

With a grumble of dragon-tongue curses, the large, muscled once-dragon man laid himself on the wooden bench awkwardly, too tall to fit comfortably.

A loud hiss of curses from his mouth and quite a few odd looks from guards later, he had found a better position on the bench and quickly fell asleep.

'''''

You blinked.

How much had you had to drink last night?

With a frown, you further inspected the large figure on the bench, taking in the deep black hair, pale skin, and nearly over 7-foot-tall body. Your basket of food hanging on your arm felt like it wasn't even there, confusion clouding your face.

You felt something inside you jostle, a deep, primal urge that could only be from your dragon soul stirring because of this man.

Hesitantly, you reached out to him, daylight shining on your skin as you gently shook him awake, an odd tingling resonating in your hand as you lifted it away. His wake wasn't as calm as you'd hoped it be, the man in an old worn tunic shoot up abruptly and catching your wrists.

His eyes, a brilliant ruby red, glared into yours with such a fierce gaze you felt a shiver down your back.

You knew those eyes.

But it had been years since Alduin was defeated- almost 3 now! It couldn't be! How... how could he have stayed alive, much less become human?

"Dragonborn," he hissed out, sharp, deadly handsome features twisting in a feral snarl. "Undo this. Undo this now."

Your eyes widened, shock still obvious on your features. "A-Alduin?"

He glowered, "Who else, you idiotic Dovahkiin? Bring back my dragon form; undo this curse you have put upon me!"

You flinched back, eyes drawn in confusion. "I didn't do anything!" you defended, "I thought you were dead!"

"You lie!" he accused with a growl, fists clenched.

A sense of guilt welled on you, why, you could not answer, a frown coming onto your face.

"Look, Alduin," you start quietly, trying to sympathize, "I'm sorry, but I don't know how this happened. I can try to take you to the Greybeards, but I doubt they'd react well."

He glared, sharp and cautious. "You dare help one you once aimed to kill?"

You groan, grabbing a piece of bread from your basket and holding it out to him. "Take it. You must be starving. And move over, will you?!"

He looked at you suspiciously, but took it nonetheless, moving over after a few seconds of your unimpressed gaze.

You sat next to him without hesitation, placing the basket of food on your lap before letting out a small sigh as be began to eat the bread.

He recoiled after a bite. "This is..."

"Bland," you answered. "I know. I don't have any butter, sorry. I'd probably make you actual food if I could."

A sheepish smile from you, and he gave you an incredulous look.

"You act oddly," he muttered before taking another chunk of bread into his mouth, "you are kind even though you should not be, and you do not seem to have a slightest wish to harm me."

You shrug. "Freaking out won't really do anything. Plus, after killing Mirrak, I found being the only Dragonborn on Nirn is kind of depressing," you state.

"You killed Mirrak?" he barked, surprised.

A nod.

"I may not hate you so much after all, Dragonborn," he chuckled.

"I have that effect," you wink. "It's hard not to like me."

He gave you a raised brow. "You are arrogant."

"Nah," you wave him off, "I'm honest."

He snorted. "You are most certainly odd, Dovahkiin."

"I guess."

"You... you have a name, correct?"

"____," you state with a small smile. "I'd never thought you'd ask."

He scoffed, face redding slightly. "I did not mean it as a compliment."

"Really?" you drawled, a smirk on your lips.

Alduin refused to look at you.

You tapped his arm, and pure, racing heat ran through your fingers.

You froze, and he whipped his head around, eyes wide.

"What did you do?" he cried, "That did not feel natural!"

You yelped, panicking. "I don't know! I touched your arm and-"

"No," he muttered. "This is not happening."

You continued to freak out, "Alduin! Explain!"

He scowled.

"You and I are... matched."

"I thought- I thought Mara was on my side!" you wailed.

The world-eater glared.
