"And now," Legate Rikki grinned, nudging your side, "we can eat the food."

You let out a laugh. "Is that all you care about, Rikki?"

She rolled her eyes, the fitted, simple tunic on her broad shoulders shifting as she moved slightly. "General Tullius is going to get plastered, ____, along with that Hadvar of yours," she winked.

A groan. "Hadvar is not an object, and even if he was, he wouldn't be mine."

She gasped, "You're dissing your future husband, ____? That is cruel!"

With a sharp, mostly playful look, you crossed your arms. "And you're ignoring yours? Oh, the gossip is ripe between you and the General, Rikki."

She flushed a subtle pink, her eyes gleaming with embarrassment and fury alike. "You know it's never been like that."

A wiggled brow. "And I'm supposed to believe you?"

She shook her head, smiling. "Now, I have to mingle, Dragonborn, you have some fun. Victory is sweet."

"And victory is scarce. A good night to you, Rikki," you replied in kind.

The mull and murmur of the small group of elite officials of the Imperial army mingled about, most straying from you being the rather unpersonable aura you applied with great pleasure. It was normal at this point, the only times you really came out from your shell was with Rikki (and despite the Legate's teasing) and Hadvar.

Often times, you and Hadvar were posted at the same location, so it made for easy friendship. Truly, he'd saved your life back in Helgen, and yet he never seemed tow ant to ask anything in return. Hadvar was a kind man, one such that didn't discriminate against race and such, and one that was humorous in a non-offensive way.

You'd watched him get a few amulets before, women who'd fallen head for heels at his nurturing and gentle nature. Yet, he sent them off with a shake of his head and an apologetic smile, claiming he had someone else in his mind.

You trusted he would tell you one day- the both of you were good friends and comfortable with each other. There was even an occurrence where you'd both had to strip out of everything except undergarments to keep warm and there wasn't a shred of tension (unless you count petty teasing as tension).

He'd helped you when you'd gotten sick from the rations. You were damn near ready to throw up your own stomach and still, he was there with a cold rag to dispell some of the fever, a raised brow to keep spirits high and a teasing word or two to keep your attention diverted for a while.

Hadvar was, well, to put it lightly even, everything to you. He was the rock you could cling to in rushing rapids, someone you could lean on be it sunshine or snow, rain or hail.

You looked around.

He should be here, somewhere.

And with that thought in mind, you went searching, asking a few if they'd seen him, and ultimately finding that he had stubbornly chosen to stay in the upper portion of Castle Duor.

Taking the stairs two at a time and upon reaching the upper part, you spotted him leaning against a wall and making small talk with Tullius.

Rikki was chatting to Legate Fasendil, who you'd found to be an agreeable person after a few weeks of having to work with him.

The woman grinned widely upon seeing your entrance. "And the legend shows once more! Tell me, have you gotten drunk yet since we've won, ____?"

You rolled your eyes. "Not once, not ever. Screw it, Rikki."

She barked out a laugh, "Oh, you know you love me."

"Do I, now?"

Fasendil shook his head. "You two are terrible," he muttered.

Hadvar joined the conversation, seemingly finishing his with the general and coming to stand beside you. "They're the best and being horrible."

You clapped, "See! I'm appreciated here."

An arm laid comfortable at your shoulders via Hadvar as casual chit-chat continued, General Tullius entering and the talk easy going and comfortable. Within a side glance, you noticed Hadvar seemed to be in a rather... stiff position.

He looked uncomfortable, and you watched he shifted slightly in a manner that seemed like he was trying to hide something.

You censured the thought, his focus shifting.

As you both caught eyes, he smiled, a thing that made your heart beat erratically before he went back to talking.

Things were off today.

Your stomach jostled, either from nerves or from embarrassment.

The Altmer beside Rikki murmured something in her ear. The woman seemed to forcefully stifle emotion and expression because of the quiet words.

"Hadvar," she started, "you plan on doing anything now everything's been settled?"

He blinked. "Possibly."

Your gaze flickered to his, your head barely reaching his chin, and then fizzled out.

At eye level was his neck, and so, as a default, your eyes fell to there.

You quickly looked away.

Fasendil elbowed Rikki.

The woman glared hard at the soldier beside you, meanwhile, General Tullis watched the chain of events with mild interest.

Hadvar turned to you, smiling sheepishly.

"So, ____-" he started.

You gave him a warning look- he better not be joking around.

Who in the gods' name wouldn't know what that meant?

Hadvar returned the look with raised brows. "-I have a slightly important question."

"Hadvar," you muttered, face heating.

"In fact, I have been waiting quite a while to ask this."

"Oh gods above," you wheezed out, covering your face with your hands.

"Do me the pleasure," a hand gently tugged yours away from your face, and he gave that stupid, stupid charming smile, "of being my wife?"

You kissed him.

Because who says yes, like a normal person?
