It seems lately now that many of us are losing Voice
Partly due to circumstance but ultimately a choice
There's too much to take in and not enough time to put out
My fears were once a whisper, but is building to a shout
The Beatles asked about lonely people and where they all come from
But if we're truly honest, we've all added to this sum
We seem to want attention while hiding in the shadows
Invisible nooses 'round all our necks, silently marching to the gallows
It's easy to find the problem, just look around, its clear!
Realistically we'll find it by looking in a mirror
Loneliness so familiar to us yet we think we're all alone
The only glow on our faces, from staring mindlessly at our phones
Our lives compacted to rectangles, all-consuming, hearts bereft
We touch more plastic and glass, than we seem to touch flesh
Alien to our own surroundings, we alienate ourselves
Bowing down to this deity that's all-knowing and handheld
Thinking its better with comfort zones, living without conflict
Why bother with expanding, when we can simply sit?
Let's just find another who corroborates and thinks like me
Then I don't have to mature, and build up walls systematically
I'd rather hide as an ostrich, oh but here's one even better!
I can pretend it's okay to friends and fam with lots of pics and letters
Surrounded by people always, but separate myself
Tuning them out when I don't need them, yet hear when I need help
This is what we live in, and we all must learn to break free
If we don't, we'll live as zombies in this brain-dead society
Why think for ourselves when we have others or a machine?
Living a nightmare from what was supposed to be a sweet dream
Comparing to profiles of people perpetuating something real
Convinced by emotions it's true if it's simply what we feel
You can't find your own place in outward people and fake grins
You'll find yourself only if you would just look within
Break out our trumpets and smash down these wireless walls of Jericho
If we simply open ourselves, we'll live more than we'll ever know.
