how many of us drift along?
caught in the fog
grasping for straws?
holding on to ghosts of our past
chasing dreams, awake
so we believe the lie
we tell ourselves "if only"
If only we got that job, that promotion
If only I had that special someone
If only I were prettier, smarter, stronger, tougher
if only I'd done things differently
if only things were easier
if only I knew
if only I didn't know
if only they still loved me
if only I'd taken that chance
if only we'd stop thinking "if only"
sometimes the thing we want most is the thing that destroys us
life is worth living but not living to be someone else
or changing someone else or some aspect of someone else
we need to face opinions with facts
face knowledge with wisdom
face our demons head on
face separation with unity
face darkness with light
every day you live in the past
is a day you're not present
every day you worry about the future
your troubled past becomes present
every day you live in fear
your courage withers
every day that you sear
is a day content fades
perseverance isn't just hanging on, it's pushing forward
positivity isn't naivety, it creates hope
faith isn't a crutch, it's life support
love isn't weakness, it is the ultimate strength
realize what it is you love most
fight for it to free yourself
cast off those shackles
if then
could you truly live?
