it was almost nine o'clock.
zach hadn't stopped looking at the time on his phone. as bad as he felt he had hardly seen ryan's match, although he did see when he scored and dedicated it to his girlfriend, evy.
now the game was over and ryan's team, the eagles, had won by only one. zach congratulated the few boys he knew and his brother. he also dance with her sister, reese, when pop music played through the speakers of the pavilion. zach didn't mind doing the idiot with his sister whenever she had a good time.
reese finally let him rest when their mother told her it was too late to stay here.
his parents asked him for the third time before leaving if he wanted to go home with them or have dinner with them. but zach shook his head. he had plans. but...
what if it he doesn't come?
zach refused to think about that possibility. not when he had been nervous all day about the date with jack. this for him was very important.
zach needed to calm down.he needed to think that there was traffic or that jack was choosing what to wear because he was also as nervous as zach was.
at that time, mark, one of the brothers of the team players of zach's brother and also one of the friends zach had had for some time at school approached him and caught his attention by hitting him on the shoulder.
"they are going to close the pavilion." said the blond boy with a small smile.
zach could only nod because he didn't know what to say. he got up from the stands and looked at the time on his phone.
it was a quarter past nine.
"how have you come here?"asked mark accompanying him outside the pavilion.
it wasn't strange, the boy used to spend a lot of time with the herrons and zach saw him often. but since zach had gotten a house with his bandmates, he hardly saw mark. he used to have good times with him.
"my parents have brought me." zach said making a face. he still felt a little stupid to be the only one in his band who hadn't managed to get his driver's license. he always said he didn't have time and the truth was that he didn't have it, right now he was too focused on his classes.
"but they left half an hour ago." said the blond, frowning. zach nodded to let him know that he already knew. "what do you think about you and me going to eat something out there, like in the old days." murmured mark.
his intentions were good. he didn't want to leave zach alone. and unlike zach, he had his own car.
"today i can't, mark. i have..." zach thought of his words after looking at the time for the millionth time. "i have a date."
he still had hope.
mark smiled sideways and then raised his head to look around. mark was looking for that someone with whom zach had a date but everyone had gone to celebrate the game for which the eagles had won the season. "that's great, zach, i hope you have a good time."
"me too." zach said, sitting down in one of the benches on the street. "if he comes."
the herron boy watched as mark hesitated between leaving and sitting next to him but apparently that last comment of zach made him decide to sit by his side.
