Melting a Heart of Ice (Beast Wars Dinobot AU x Female Reader)

I Understand Now

*Y/n's POV *

Y/n stares at Dinobot, who was now standing in front of her in the living room, still in his robot form. He had just finished explaining what he was and why he was keeping what he was a secret until later on. Y/n kinda had a hard time processing what he was when she had first seen his robot form. "I think I understand a bit more. Could I see your beast mode?" Y/n asks.

"I don't see the harm in it," said Dinobot. He transforms into his beast mode and once he was finished, he waited for Y/n's reaction.

Y/n cautiously reaches out and touches Dinobot on his snout, feeling his muscles flex underneath her hand. "Did not expect your skin to feel warm." She pulls her hand away.

"What? Did you expect me to be cold-blooded like a reptile? I'm warm-blooded." Dinobot snaps.

"Well scientists have been saying for for years, that dinosaurs are cold-blooded. But there is a change in theory about that," said Y/n. She touches Dinobot on his snout again, feeling his muscles flex underneath her hand. "So do you eat regular food like meat or do you subsist on something else to survive?" She runs her hand down his neck, feeling his scales.

"I can still eat food, it's just we still need energon to survive," said Dinobot.

"So what is energon?" Y/n asks.

"Energon is our source of energy to survive as well as the lifeblood for us Cybertronions. The Maximals, as well as the Predicons, come from a planet called Cybertron. Home of our ancestors, autonomous lifeforms, otherwise what humans called Autobots and Decepticons. Both sides fought in a war that lasted for centuries." Dinobot continues to explain the best he could.

It takes two hours for Dinobot to finish explaining to Y/n about the Maximals, Predicons, Autobots, and Decepticons. Also as well as answer any questions she had asked.

"Can you turn back to your robot mode?" Y/n asks.

"I don't see the harm," said Dinobot. He changes from his beast mode back to his robot mode. He flinches back in surprise when Y/n was suddenly in front of him.

Y/n reaches out and touches his face. "I didn't expect you to feel warm. Metal yet..." She steps back, apparent confusion in her eyes. "This just confuses me. So are you able to turn back to human?"

"Yeah but it takes quite a bit of energy to change back. Bad enough I had to expend quite a bit of energy as well when I had to chase off that one guy."

"What guy?"

"When I was here earlier, after I had dropped off the bandages and aloe vera gel, I noticed a car was parked at the end of the block."

"What did the driver look like?" Y/n didn't like where this was going.

Dinobot quickly describes the driver, describes the guy to the t.

"Did you chase him to the next state over?"

"What do you mean?"

Y/n takes a deep breath. She didn't want to tell Dinobot but she knew his curiosity would get the better of him. "That guy is the reason why I moved here. That guy...was my ex-boyfriend. The reason why moved here is because...." Y/n shakes her head. She didn't want to say because of the pain that would back from those bad memories. "He beat me to the point where I could have died...." She shakes her head again, refusing to say anymore of what had happened. "I don't want to say anymore about it..."

Dinobot stares at Y/n for a few moments before finally speaking. "When you see ready, you can tell me what really happened," said Dinobot. A few hours later, Dinobot was finally able to return to his human form, much to Y/n's surprise. He had decided to stay over at her place until he was able to turn back to normal or else risk getting yelled at by Optimus Primal and the others. Dinobot heads into the kitchen to help Y/n cook something to eat since he felt bad to leave her alone now.

Y/n was on her way out of the kitchen when she bumps into a shirtless Dinobot. She squeaks in surprise. Her face tints with a slight blush. "Sorry..." she mumbles.

"It's alright. Do you want me to help you cook?" Dinobot asks.

"Just put a shirt back on, please..." Y/n mumbles before she heads back into the kitchen.

After the food was made, Dinobot spent more time answering Y/n's questions the best he could, even though he had to call Rattrap over to help with the questions. He wasn't too happy when Dinobot told him what had happened but once he realized that Y/n was accepting what they were, he was happy to help answer some questions as well. He even revealed his beast mode and robot mode as well. But as it turns out, Y/n was kinda freaked out that Rattrap was able to change into a giant rat.

*Dinobot's POV *

Dinobot watches as Rattrap was telling about his favorite places to visit on Cybertron as well as besides Energon they needed to consume, told her about the food they also ate back on their homeworld. It got to the point where Dinobot could tell that Y/n was about ready to fall asleep from exhaustion. "Come on, vermin. Let's go home so Y/n can get some sleep." Dinobot had to pull Rattrap out of the house since he was trying to find every excuse to stay longer and talk to Y/n.

"Why ruin the fun, chopperface? I'm glad we found someone who doesn't freak out over what we are," said Rattrap.

Dinobot let's go of Rattrap's shirt and shoves him out the door, bidding Y/n goodbye and leaving as well. "I have a feeling she might have had dealt with one of our kind before."

"What do you mean?" Rattrap asks.

"Not sure how she knows. When she had seen my robot mode the first time, no shock or fear was in her eyes. Her eyes showed disbelief over what she had seen. Though her cat didn't seem to care..."

"Persians are like that. They are pretty chill cats, you can even ask Cheetor about that if you don't believe me," said Rattrap.

*Y/n's POV*

Later that night, Y/n looks though one of her photo albums, trying to find an old picture of a friend she had when she was a kid, around the first time she went to explore the woods near her parents house. Its takes about another fifteen minutes before she finds the picture she was looking for, for which it was stuck behind another picture. She looks at the picture. In the picture was a little girl sitting next to a rather large white grizzly bear. But what was strange about the bear was that it had vibrant red claws. "Well, Icebird. Looks like I was wrong. I guess you are not the only one," Y/n tells herself as she puts the picture back in the photo album.

As it turns out, Icebird was a part of the Beast Machines story arc, but only in the comics. Yes he turn into an owl, sadly he has no robot mode, no thanks to Megatron's experiments to create a virus that makes a Transformer stuck in one mode :(*
