Saying Good-bye is Always Hard

*Y/n's POV*

Y/n gets ready to go visit Icebird. She had a feeling something was off. She hurries upstairs to her old room to change into a different set of clothes. She was going to end up hiking through the woods so she needed to prepare for ticks and other problems along the way. She sprays on some OFF! Deep woods bugspray to keep the ticks and other bugs away. She didn't care if anything smelled her a mile away, she needed to go see Icebird. She turns her attention to the doorway where Dinobot is standing. "Are you coming with?"

"It's not really a choice in the matter. I am coming with you regardless if you want me to come or not. The worst you have to worry about is maybe a couple of coyotes along the way if there is a den in the woods. Plus I am making sure you stay safe," said Dinobot.

"Not really sure how Icebird is going to react seeing you," said Y/n. She pushed past Dinobot and heads downstairs. Dinobot follows shortly after. Y/n goes into the closet and grabs a flashlight. "I don't plan on falling and getting hurt on the way there." She heads out the door.

"Tell me more about Icebird," said Dinobot as he follows Y/n.

"I met Icebird years ago when I was eight years old. I was escaping into the woods near my parents home in order to try and get away from a group of bullies. I literally end up bumping into Icebird. Not sure what to think of him at first. The first time I saw him, he was in his bear form. He was pretty huge in size compared to me. I remember him taking one look at me and looking at the group of kids who had chased me into the woods. He ends up roaring at the kids and scaring them away. Pretty much after that I was terrified." Y/n turns on the flashlight before stepping foot into the woods. "At first I thought he was going to eat me. Before that I never seen a bear before in my life. He looks down at me and asks me why I ran into the woods in the first place, telling me it was very dangerous for a kid my age to even go into the woods."

The rest of the walk was spent in silence until they got to Icebird's cave. When they got there, Icebird was laying outside the entrance of the cave, in his bear form. When Y/n approached him, he didn't lift his head to acknowledge her. "Hi, Icebird. It's been a while."

"Its been a few moons since I had last seen you..." Icebird struggles to his feet. "How have you been?" Icebird looks over at Dinobot. "Why is he here?"

Dinobot steps towards Icebird. "My name is Dinobot. I am a warrior of the Maximals. I was once a part of the Predicons years ago, but I defected and joined the Maximals."

"Tell me now, is Megatron still leader of the Predacons?" Icebird asks.

"He is but to a sense he is no longer what you know him as he once was before. Both the Maximals and Predicons live in Paradise Falls. It's a city quite a ways from here," said Dinobot.

"It's about a two day drive to get here. We tried to get here as soon as possible," said Y/n. She looks Icebird over. His fur had patches missing from it, a part of his ear was missing, and he had an open wound on his left shoulder. "Icebird what happened to you. Last I had seen you..."

"I'm old, Y/n. Older than you think. I was hoping to see you a bit sooner. Please follow me." Icebird heads into his cave, Y/n and Dinobot follow closely behind. "I stopped by your parents house earlier today to see if you were home. Your dad mentioned you would be coming home so I waited as long as I could..." He collapses down onto a bed of furs. "I have a few things to give you, Y/n."

"Icebird you make it sound like you are dying," said Y/n. At this point, she was trying not to cry.

"Like I said, I'm older than you know. Now go look in that crate. I have a few things for you." Icebird points to the crate not too far from his head.

Y/n goes over to the crate and looks inside to see what Icebird wanted to give to her. Inside the crate were a few white feathers, to be more precise flight feathers from Icebird's owl form. A rather large bear tooth which Y/n assumed that he lost not that long ago. A few oddly shaped rocks about the size of a grapefruit. And last but not least, a strange glowing crystal. Y/n was hesitant to touch it. "Hey, Dinobot?" Y/n points to the strange glowing crystal. "Do you know what that is?"

"Hm?" Dinobot looks over Y/n's shoulder and sees what she was pointing at. "Thst is raw energon. Very dangerous in its raw form." He looks over at Icebird. "Where did you find that energon crystal?"

"Our ancestors brought energon to this planet thousands of years ago. How else could the Autobots and Decepticons have an energy source while away from Cybertron..." Icebird let's out a sigh. "I wish to speak to Y/n alone."

"As you wish," said Dinobot. He takes the crate of stuff and leaves the cave.

"Y/n please sit next to me. I've much to tell you with only a short amount of time left," said Icebird.

Y/n sits down next to Icebird and leans up against him, taking in the warmth of his fur. "How long have you been in this condition?"

"For quiet a while now. Like I said I'm older than you know. Do you remember the first day we met? I scared off those kids who wanted to hurt you."

"Yeah I do, Icebird." Y/n laughs a little while wiping away hot tears that fell down her cheeks. "That was quiet the day. Dad thought I had brought home a white grizzly bear."

"I did give your family quiet the fright but I am glad that we became friends. We both taught each other so much. It's time I tell you what needs to be told."

*Dinobot's POV*

Dinobot could feel the distress coming from Y/n followed by anger while he waits outside the cave entrance. "Don't make me come in there!!" Dinobot yells back into the cave. He takes a deep breath to calm his nerves. He wanted to head back. It was already dark outside and it was getting late. He just wanted to be back at the house to spend time with Y/n. He looks down when he feels a drop of moisture land on his arm. He looks up at the sky and sees no clouds. "Wait its not... " He puts his hand to his face and feels tears falling down his cheeks. He couldn't remember the last time he had cried. "What?" He felt their spark bond falter. It was at that point Dinobot realized that Y/n had another type of bond. Without knowing, she had made Icebird her guardian. It wasn't much longer before Y/n comes out of the cave, wiping tears from her eyes. "Hey come here. You don't need to cry. You'll make me cry." Dinobot pulls Y/n into his embrace.

He could feel her body shake from her sobs. Through their shared bond, no matter how weak it was, Dinobot felt Y/n's sadness. He felt her grief over the death of Icebird. After what seemed like an eternity, Dinobot guides Y/n back home and puts her to bed. He didn't know how to deal with this type of grief. He felt grief from fallen comrades back on Cybertron. But this was different. "Guess I should get used to this," said Dinobot as he lays down next to Y/n.
