The bell went and everyone breathed a sigh of relief as we could all escape the torture known as Macbeth and go home. Courtney signalled to me to wait since she wanted to try and get us out of detention tomorrow. When everyone else had left we sauntered towards Mrs Walkers desk.
'Can I help you girls.' she asked in an irritated voice as she raised her eyebrows at us.
Courtney stopped to look down and fluttered her eyelashes a couple of times. What was she trying to do? Flirt with her? Just hurry up & get on with it so we can leave!
'Mrs Walker, let me explain. You see the only reason me & Jen were late to lesson is because of Luke Henderson.'
Mrs. Walker looked surprised, probably because Luke was known as a good kid throughout the school.
'Go on.' Mrs Walker said. It was obvious we'd caught her attention now.
'Well me and Jenna were minding our own business walking to English class and then out of nowhere Luke literally shoved Jenna's arm and threw her bag on the floor. So we were late because we obviously had to put all her stuff back in her bag & she was like in shock. I mean who wouldn't be after they'd just been assaulted?'
'Are you sure this is Luke Henderson we're talking about Courtney.' Mrs Walker questioned.
'Positive.' she replied.
'Is this true Jenna?' Mrs Walker asked turning her attention towards me.
'Yeah.' I replied in an extremely quiet voice. Regretting what I'd said instantly. It was an accident! I was screaming to myself inside.
'Ok then girls, you don't have detention tomorrow then. However, we need to get this resolved since as you well know this school does not accept violence of any kind. I'll schedule both of you an appointment first period tomorrow for you to discuss this incident with the principal. Your teachers will be informed so as you arrive at school tomorrow just wait outside the principal's office.' I felt as if I'd been punched in the stomach. Literally an accidental knock against my arm was spiralling out of control. I opened my mouth to say something, but Courtney grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the room.
'Thank God we don't have detention tomorrow and we get out of gym class. This couldn't have gone any better!' She said smiling.
'Yeah.' I agreed with a fake smile plastered on my face and a sick feeling in my stomach. We started walking to the gate to meet up with Savannah & Tamzin to go get coffee, like we do everyday.
'Jen, just let me do the talking tomorrow ok? I get that you think it was an accident, but seriously sometimes people need to be put back in their place. They need to know where they belong in this school.' I gave her a weak smile & willed her to shut up.
We got to the gate and said hi & exchanged hugs with Tamzin & Savannah. Then we got in Tamzin's car and drove to Starbuck's. Then I ordered my white chocolate mocha, like I do everyday. Everyone was gossiping and I was just ignoring them in my own little world, worrying about what would happen to Luke tomorrow.
Courtney obviously decided to bring the conversation round to Luke again. Tamzin and Vannie were hanging on her every word. 'Can you all just shut up about Luke for 5 minutes? I'm seriously sick of hearing about it now. I just want to forget about it.' I said dramatically hoping they would feel sorry for me and shut up when I couldn't even care less about my bag anymore and I was sick of no-one listening to me when I told them it was an accident.
'Aww hunny we're sorry, just try and forget about it, he's not worth thinking about.' Vannie said trying to comfort me.
I was so happy when we were standing up to leave. I could finally get away from everyone obsessing over a stupid bag. I was so glad to go home.
