I woke up in an empty bed. Spencer must have already gotten up, he was definitely an early bird and I was definitely not. I had changed out of my dress and into one of Spencer’s t-shirts last night. The only clothes I had with me was my dress so I changed back into it. I went downstairs and ate some breakfast. Just as I’d finished Spencer entered the kitchen. ‘Hey,’ he said cheerily.
‘Hey.’ I replied groggily. He laughed at me since he’s such a morning person.
‘Do you need a ride home?’ he asked me.
‘Nah, I’ll just walk, it’s only 10 minutes away.’
‘Are you sure?’
‘Yeah, my mom would kill me if she knew I’d been here anyway.’
‘True.’
I wandered back upstairs for my stuff. I switched on my phone.

Ugh. My mom sure knew how to overreact.

I was walking up my driveway and was a couple of steps away from the door. Suddenly my mom threw the door open and was literally screaming at me. I pushed past her, ignoring her and ran upstairs to get ready for school. I was definitely going to be late, but who even cares?
When I’d almost finished getting ready she barged into my room. I wasn’t even listening to her, I just let her carry on screaming at me. When I’d finished applying my eyeliner I picked up my bag and set off for school, leaving her shouting behind me. It was about an hours walk to school, but I preferred that to getting in a car with my psychopath of a mother.
By the time I arrived at school I’d already missed math and nearly all of english. I didn’t see any point in going to english for 10 minutes so I just went straight to the cafeteria. At least I was guaranteed to get us a good table since I was here so early. I sat down at the table next to the windows.
The bell went for break and everyone started filing in. I wasn’t really paying much attention, but then something caught my eye. Or someone actually. It wasn’t even intentional my eyes just couldn’t stop looking at him. Ugh. Seriously Jenna, you need to get yourself under control and stop staring at Luke Henderson. You have a boyfriend for fucks sake, and even if I didn’t the school would probably blow up if anyone found out that I liked Luke since we were from completely opposite worlds. Eventually he disappeared into a crowd of people so I didn’t have to think about him anymore.
Eventually the girls showed up. ‘Oh my God. Jen. Where were you last night?’ Savannah said looking shocked. ‘I was at Spencer’s.’ I replied quietly. I had enough interrogating to look forward to when I get home, never mind getting it from everyone else as well.
‘I’m sorry my mom ratted you out Jen. I didn’t think your mom would have been knocking at our door.’ Courtney said, sounding genuinely sympathetic for a change.
‘Can we just change the subject?’ I asked slightly annoyed.
