I was dragged into the kitchen by Savannah and we got some more drinks. I’d already decided that I was going to drink this one really slowly, since I didn’t want to get drunk and make a fool out of myself in front of Luke. I looked over at him and saw that he was drinking a can of Coke. Who comes to a party if they aren’t going to drink alcohol?
‘Go talk to him.’ Savannah whispered in my ear.
‘I don’t know what to say to him.’ I confessed.
‘What’s his friend called?’ she asked.
‘The one that’s standing next to him?’ I asked.
‘No the one on the moon, idiot!.’ she said jokingly.
‘He’s called James. Why?’ I remembered from the times he interrupted me being tutored by Luke. ‘Because we’re going to talk to them.’ Before I had a chance to argue Savannah pulled my arm so I had no choice but to talk over with her.
She introduced us and we were just making small conversation. James looked terrified if I’m being honest. It was kind of funny, he was clearly not used to being approached by girls, especially girls as pretty as Vannie. I knew that James wasn’t her type at all and she was only slightly flirting with him so I had a chance to flirt with Luke. She was such a good friend like that.
After a few minutes me and Luke were left alone. Savannah announced that she wanted to dance and practically dragged James out of the kitchen. Luke turned to me looking confused ‘Why are you talking to us?’
I felt a blush creep onto my cheeks. ‘Umm...well we’re friends aren’t we?’ I said nervously. I wouldn’t exactly call us friends, but what else was I meant to say?
‘Um, I guess?’ he said sounded a bit shocked.
We started talking again, mostly about school stuff. After a while I’d finished my drink and put down the bottle on the floor. So much for drinking it slowly. I couldn’t even focus on what Luke was saying anymore, I was too busy watching his lips move as he talked. I couldn’t help myself anymore. Maybe the alcohol had improved my confidence or something, but before I knew it I was leaning in to kiss him.
I could see the shock in his eyes, but I carried on anyway. I pressed my lips to his, they were warm and inviting. I kissed him again and again. Our lips were moving in sync. My arms were wrapped around his neck and his were around my waist. I felt him move one of his arms and place it on my cheek, then he deepened the kiss. I was in heaven. I’d only ever kissed two people before Luke. Spencer and then some kid when I was about 13. Spencer’s kisses could never compare to this, I never wanted to stop.
Eventually we pulled away from each other. He looked amazing, his cheeks were flushed and his lips were swollen. I snuggled under his arm and he wrapped it around me. He rested his chin on the top of my head and we just stood in silence for a while. Both of us shocked about what had just happened.
