"Is that everything?"
Jinyoung nodded, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the cold metal table of the interrogation room. "For years.... since I was a child, and probably long before that, they were doing this... I was too afraid to ever speak up but... now that Youngjae's no longer a threat, I feel like I have freedom now, and I hope everyone else who was roped into it does too."
"Thank you for telling us what happened. Your story seems to match up with a lot of others we've heard so far. I'm glad you're still here to tell it." The police officer sitting across from him stated with a warm smile, Jinyoung's story obviously touching their heart.
Jinyoung looked over at Jaebum whose hand he never let go of for the hours upon hours they've been in the police station room. From Jackson's penthouse all the way down to the station, they were attached to one another, refusing to let anyone separate them.
"So, for you... I think we can make a deal about the whole robbing situation and the guy you shot in the leg. He's doing alright, so as long as he's still alive you're pretty much fine. I can work out something with the judge and your attorney, maybe some community service and a fine? does that sound good?" the officer asked after taking some more notes in their notebook.
Jinyoung nodded vigorously, relieved that they could work out such a lenient deal. "Yes, I'll do anything, I feel really bad about all that's happened..."
"You shouldn't feel bad, you've been through a lot kid. And those other guys, I'm sure we can somewhat get their sentences shortened, but they will be serving some time for their wrongdoings." The officer stated, standing up while looking over their notes."Alright, I think that's all we need from you two today. Just stay in town because we'll definitely be calling you back for some interviews and court dates."
Jinyoung nodded, standing up along with Jaebum and following the officer to the door. "Okay. Thank you officer."
As the two walked out, the officer stopped Jaebum, leaning in close to mumbled something in a low voice. "And you... you'll probably get the same, just some community service for harboring a wanted criminal considering the circumstances. But in the meantime, take care of that boy. He needs someone strong by his side. I can tell he trusts you."
"Of course, I don't plan on leaving him." Jaebum assured, leaving the room with a smile as Jinyoung tugged him down the hallway.
The two spoke to a few more officers and met briefly with their lawyers before finally being able to leave. They'd been in the station for hours, and it was well into the night at that point, they were glad to get out of the flourescent lights and into the cool night air.
"You did so good today Jinyoung. I'm so proud of you." Jaebum said with a squeeze of his hand, looking over at Jinyoung's features illuminated in the glow of the moon.
Jinyoung shrugged, looking down at the ground. "All I did was repeat the same story over and over again. It's not that big a deal."
"But still, it must be hard to relive your past. I hate thinking about my past and I wasn't in a weird crime cult." Jaebum stated.
Jinyoung chuckled lightly, though his smile quickly faded away. "Yeah, I guess..."
Jaebum awkwardly cleared his throat, deciding to change the subject away from Shadow. He was sure that Jinyoung was tired of speaking about it by now. "Also... I'm sorry..."
Jinyoung stopped in his tracks, pulling Jaebum back by the hand. "Wait. For what?"
Jaebum sighed, shaking his head as he turned to face Jinyoung. "For... failing to protect you. I dunno if I've made it clear enough but, I really wanted to be your knight in shining armor. Instead I was pretty useless..."
