Confrontation

3Gun slept in the saddle

and rode through the night

with Horse on alert

for signs of a fight

As over the valley

the sun gradually arose

he could plainly see

the route his quarry chose

Deep ruts in the dirt

from the weight of the bounty

he followed them easily

through Crusted County

When dusk settled in

he saw a small fire's glow

how many men were there

he wanted to know

He left his spurs and Horse

in an arroyo bone dry

sneaked up on the campsite

and began to spy.

Sol Sr. sat alone

by the flickering fire

he had no idea

he situation was dire

3Gun slid back down to Horse

then he'd wait until dawn

when he'd ride in on Sol

and they'd get it on.

***********

Sol looked up from his bed roll

surprise on his face that ornery sheriff

had given good chase

He dove for his rifle

rolled over on his back

but 3Gun was gone

Sol had lost track

From behind the wagon

came a deadly command

"Drop the gun, Sol

or eat desert sand."
