Into the Shadows
As Petra lay down to sleep
Into the shadows
her thought did creep
She did appear
As she knew she would
Petra felt no fear
Shadow understood
"So, you know?"
"I do."
"I didn't know how to tell you."
"They say you are my sister?"
"I am, I'm no trickster,
When GranGran
Told me all about you
She told me about our
connection too.
She taught me
how to find you."
"Missy said it was
GranGran who betrayed
us all as family.
Why, couldn't she have stayed."
Shadow shook her head no.
"GranGran knew
she had to let daughter go.
They would have killed us all.
Mother is far too powerful.
And with the birth of us, twins
They feared what would begin."
"Those in power thought she might claim her right
The elders knew they couldn't fight her,
So sent her chasing after you
Knowing she'd immediately take flight."
"Her right?"
"Our Mother should have been
the leader of our tribe,
she is descended from a Carib king.
We fulfilled the prophecy
That was transcribed."
"Then why keep you?
They must have known GranGran
Knew the truth."
"They tried to fill my head
With nonsense
my heart with dread
They even tried to say
you were all dead."
"They wanted my powers,
to keep control
But GranGran knew they lied
Getting me back to you her only goal."
"GranGran taught me second sight
and I'd practice day and night.
When I found you I know
I gave you quite a fright."
"It was the day that my dad died.
I feel asleep as I cried.
You were there to comfort me
And told me you would always be."
"That's why I can see you now,
Your emotions connect us somehow.
GranGran always said.
We were connected from conception,
And all we needed was a helping hand.
From someone we love,
And we have each other."
"How do I find you?" Petra asked,
It seemed an insurmountable task.
Shadow smiled, "I'm on my way.
I promise I'll see you soon someday."
"I wish you were here now,
to make sense of all this somehow."
Shadow hugged her sister
and Petra was surprised,
this time she felt the hug
Shadow smiled when she'd seen
The recognition in her sister's eyes.
"I'm close, Petra so please don't fear."
She wiped away her sister's tear.
"What of Missy and Denver?
Who do I trust?
They say they love me,
But is that enough?"
"That's something only
you can decide.
But you won't find the answers
By choosing to hide."
Petra knew her sister was right
And grew sad as Shadow
Began to fade with the morning light.
She reached out and took her hand
"Please Shadow, get here as soon as you can."
"That, my sister, is guaranteed.
There's no more hiding in shadows for me."
