No Horse Sense

Rosetta sat all alone

Long ago she had run

Out of tools to hone.

Across the way

Everything was

bright and gay.

She hoped

Petra and Buck

Found some better luck.

She watched Strop

Walk up the street

Ms. Folio, he went to meet.

Her heart felt

a tinge of envy.

He'd never think of

Her has anything but friendly.

Hell, he didn't

Even think her that,

More like an annoying brat.

Oh well, at least

He'd have some fun

now that he has someone.

CM nuzzled Rosetta's cheek

"You're right CM

me feeling sorry for myself

is rather weak."

"I think you and I

are just misunderstood

Always thought were

Up to no good."

"Okay maybe we do have

Our own modus operandi"

She said pouring herself

A cup of brandy.

"Take you for example

You're only cozying up to me

Because there's someone

Else you want to see."

CM gave a snort and whinny

"Don't give me that face!

I know you only came to see me

So I'd take you to Lace."

CM nuzzled her under her chin

"Alright, Alright, you win!"

CM followed her

to where Lace was kept

Pushing at Rosetta's back.

"Hold your horses, we're not there yet!"

It was evident CM was so happy to see

The face of his one and only.

"Come on Lace, let's go out to the corral

I think CM would like a chance to chase his gal."

Lace whinnied with grace.

And began the race.

Rosetta sat alone on the picket fence.

"Why do some men have to be so dense?"

Rosetta took a long sip of her drink.

Hoping to deaden her brain enough

She couldn't think.

Then she saw Strop return

With Harriet by his side.

Harriet was everything she was not

And it stung her pride.

Graceful, educated, a true lady.

All the things Strop deserved

All the things she'd never be.

Strop held open the door

Ever the gentleman

What more,

could any woman

Ask for.

For a brief second, she thought

He looked her way.

"Careful of wishful thinking,"

Rue would say.

Rosetta pulled her hat down low

Just in case her feelings showed.

She swung her long legs

Over the fence.

She hopped on down

Her boots hitting ground.

"Caring for Strop just

Makes no sense."

"Buck up, Rosetta,

you were right

in what you

did tonight.

Best just to let him go

Don't let your feeling show.

Time for your heart

to play defense

Time you learned

Some horse sense."
