Jennie's POV

We tread on the neatly mowed grass, the leaf blades glistened with raindrops from an earlier shower. The patch of green looked mystical in the moonlight.

"Here."

Lisa released my hand and passed me a jet black helmet hanging from her motorcycle.

"What about you?" I asked. I didn't even bother questioning where we were going or what we were about to do. At this moment those little things seemed severely unimportant. What matters was i was with her. This whole thing still felt surreal.

"I'm fine, just wear it." she said and a few seconds later she gave a small smile before getting on the bike.

I fastened the helmet on my head and hopped on behind her. I've never rode on a motorcycle before.

"Um... you can hold onto me if you want. For safety purposes." Lisa muttered.

I nodded and snaked my arms around her waist, pressing my body against hers. I felt her body tense for a moment but it quickly relaxed.

"Ready? Lets go."

The cold night air whipped across our faces as we gained speed. Most of the people were at home or at places celebrating the new year's, i could make out families and friends at their own parties at the front porch as we zoomed past, the sound of her bike's engine was the only thing i could hear in the empty road other than the indistinct chatter from the neighbourhood.

I hugged her waist tighter, my cheek pressing against her back and i took in her scent. It was the same, familiar scent that i grew to love. Perhaps it was unexplainable but her fragrance calms me, and it made me feel like home. God i know i sound like a lovesick fool right now but thats exactly what she does to me. Kim Jennie you're so gone.

"Aren't you going to ask where we're heading?" Lisa asked. I could pick out the hint of surprise in her tone and the small frown on her impeccable face.

"No. I don't really care where you take me to. I trust you completely." I affirmed.

I heard a small sigh of relief coming from her and the idea of her smiling from what i said made my lips curve slowly.

"We're here." Lisa announced and we got off the bike. We were at the beach.

"Wow.. ive never actually been to a beach at night." I said amused. It was one of those small things you don't really think of, the concept of going to the beach to me was a sunny afternoon where we'll have a picnic mat and the waves crash in the background. Maybe some seagulls and definitely pitched tents loitering the bay. Right now the place was lit up beautifully partially because of the new year's decoration but also from the existing night lights. The sea was black and it seemed to stretch endlessly. The coarse sand was dimly illuminated by the cast of the street lamps from the pathways. In the far distance, lights from the cabins of ships and cruises dotted the horizon. I never knew such common places could be so magnificent after the light of day.

"It's beautiful isn't it?" Lisa said wistfully as we walked closer to the ocean, there were only a few couples around pretty far away enjoying the same quiet and serene new year's night as us.

"It is." I agreed linking our hands together while enjoying the breeze. I was glad she didn't pull away.

"How have you been?" Lisa asked her voice heavy.

The question weighed down in my heart. I wasn't quite sure how to answer it. This conversation had to happen sooner or later, but i didn't want to think about it now. I wanted to be selfish and ask more than i deserve, i wanted this moment of absolute normality to last. The tranquil surroundings and atmosphere melting away my fears and worries. The assurance of having her by my side. I didn't want to ruin it just yet.
